Hi,

If anyone could provide any info, thanks in advance.

I currently have a non b that expires in november '09, i have a work permit also, but would like to change this to a non o marriage and continue to work. Do I need to leave the country to get a new kind of visa or will it all be done here? And is Pattaya immigration a hard place to obtain one? I'm 26 and have been with thai g/f for nearly 2 years?? And how much does it cost to get married?

Thanks everyone

First you need to get a document done "Affirmation to Marry", can be downloaded from most embassy sites. This needs to be certified by the Embassy, one day at least (2,500baht I think), then you have to get it translated into Thai, then after that it needs to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be certified, then only after this can you legally get married.

To change from B to O, do it when you go for your extension, I did, just took the documents listed within this site, photos of course, and had to wait around 30days for the checks to be done, after that I received my O (Thai Wife Visa).

The price of the affirmation letter depends on the embassy, the tranlastion should cost about 300 tot 500 baht and the legalisation is about 800 baht. Most translation offices will offer to do the process of legalisation for you, for a fee of course. That might save you time and a hotel.

Next you can get married at any amphur. You will ony have to pay something of around 20 baht for a copy of the register, which you need to register the marriage in your own country/with your embassy.

You do not change your visa, you just change the reason for an extension. On the form you have to fill in a reason for the extension and that will be married to a Thai national/ or living with your Thai spouse, instead of employment.

Mario is 100% correct. I worked on a non-B and then finished work so I just extended my non-B putting "Stay with Thai spouse" as the reason for extending. Perfectly acceptable.

Thanks for replys...i am keen to get an O from my B as quickly as possible though (within 4 weeks) primarily as I won't have to do border runs..so do you know how i could go about doing that and the cost associated please?

You have to marry first - then when less than 30 days remaining on your visa entry (now) you visit Immigration with wife and paperwork to extend. Cost is 1,900 baht. You must prove 40k per month income or have 400k in Thai bank account for two months for first application. You will need passport/copies, departure card/copy, 4x6cm photo, photos at home and showing house number and inside home of both together, marriage certificate/copy and marriage amphur registration paper copy, her ID/copy, her home register/copy, map to home and the financial proof.
