eggomaniac
What are the going rates for a check up by an eye doctor, optometrist? [to clarify - a vision check up and a health check - not an optitician appointment] as compared to Bhat 3500 here in farang land
PeaceBlondie
Not really optometrist either, IMHO. In American English, you probably need an ophthalmologist - hard to spell, but an MD-Physician-surgeon. Optometrists are not surgeons-MD's. I get mine done in Chiang Mai for about 400 baht: in-depth exam of the inner eye included.
lopburi3
About 3-500 baht for physician and a little extra for medical supplies at better hospitals.
Sam125
Are optometrists available in Bangkok? I had a very good in-depth eye exam at a large private hospital but the actual vision part of the exam was done by a nurse and it was very short compared to what I am used to in in America. In some ways the situation is similar to dentists doing cleanings in Thailand a quick procedure that is not up to American standards.

Best of the best. Very reasonable prices for quality care. Highly recommended. Sounds like you are going to the wrong dentists. There are some that do very thorough cleaning and are comparable with good American dentists. Edited August 2, 2009 by elektrified

As for dentists here in Bangkok I have used large hospital dentists which again are very smart and good for serious problems but weak at slow and careful cleanings. Which in America are not done by dentists - instead they have assistants who focus on cleanings. This is what I would like to find in Bangkok.
