Us Tourist Visa Timeframe

Featured Replies

My wife and I would like to invite her parents over to visit us in the US in October. Currently, neither of her parents have passports, but they are applying today or tomorrow. From what I understand, Thailand creates passports much faster than the US. After they get their passports, they have to apply for a visa. I'd like to know what is the time between requesting an appointment and the actual interview? Are we already too late for an October visit?

Also, another question I have is regarding my in-law's Passports/IDs. They don't show their birth dates because they honestly don't know their birth dates. Will this be a problem getting a visa or plane ticket? Has anyone run into this problem before.

Thanks,

Dave.

Check US Visa Appointment Wait TIme for current wait times.

Read US Visa How to Apply carefully, It seems confusing at first and might be best if you fill in the application forms for them.

I just went to the US Embassy yesterday after I made an appointment last week.

An interesting factoid: Under the Thai Civil and Commercial Code where a Thai's birth date is unknown, then their date of birth is January 1 of the year they were born by operation of law.

From Title II section 1 Part 1 § 16 of the Civil and Commercial Code of Thailand:

In calculating the age of a person, the birth day shall be counted. If only the month of birth is known, the first day of such month shall be counted as the birthday but if it is not possible to ascertain the date of birth of a person, his age is calculated from the first day of the official year during which such birth took place.

That being said, a colleague of mine recently dealt with this and the Thai passport office apparently will not issue passports based upon this law (even where the actual law was shown to the officers). In my colleague's situation, the date was eventually determined based upon the phase of the moon noted in the passport applicant's old Tabien Baan.

Hope this was some assistance.
