I really hate lizards :S I would know is it common that in any part of city there are lots of lizards ?

Because 3 years ago i stayed in my friend home for a while, which was far from city center, and there were lots of lizards, and they moved on the walls ,floor, roof any where you can imagine, it was really disgusting , I would know is all part of Bangkok the same?, Lizards is something you accept and there are many of them in your home / room / ... ?

Every time I open my apartment door when I'm in Bangkok you can see the little things running along the ceiling / floors for their life like I'm coming to get them.

I watched them for a few minutes once, they are harmless and seem to sit there waiting for small flies / mosquitoes to come by, then they very quickly eat them.

They are everywhere. I have never seen one inside the apartment though, only outside on the open balcony area. They're not scared of heights either, I'm eight floors up.

I occasionally find one in my apartment. I don't mind, I figure if any insects get in it'll eat them. I'm fairly high up as well, these guys can climb.

thomas931 - you're obviously a newbie.

Wall lizards are no problem whatsoever.

They're never goin' to cause any problem for you unless you have some kind of psychosis.

NOW the big monitor lizards - then they can devour your pet cat/dog without you knowing.

is there any tools or device that i can set in my apartment to keep these lizards away from myself ?

I know they are not dangerous but i don't like their shape the way they move some of them even sing at nights ! have you ever seen a lizard sing ?

and I think if i rent an apartment in 7-8 floor i should encounter less lizards rather than first or second floor

I cant sleep at night if i found out a lizard is above my bed on roof

You really shouldn't be afraid of having a few lizards around they are harmless and are maintenance free as free roaming pets.

Maintenance free? I spend some time every month cleaning the poop which accumulates in the sliding window tracts. It also sticks to the walls and leaves a stain

if you're not careful removing it. Every morning I wash a few lizard terds off the car, as I think they are acidic and will eat right through the paint.

When I am quick enough I can catch them in the house by hand, but the tail always breaks off and keeps on wiggling, (defense mechanism.) They

are cute but very pesky.

You can send your lizards up to us, if you like, our pet owl loves them, eats 7 or 8 a day. Will give our family a night off from hunting them! :)

Lizards are harmless unless you are trying to get a good nights sleep.

Some of the little buggers make more noise than frogs at night. Took me a long time to figure out what that strange noise was coming from in my bedroom, turned out to be a noisy little lizard that starts croaking as soon as the lights go off.

My Thai wife is terrified of them for some unknown reason.

I saw a huge lizard the other day crossing the road (in Bangkok), the thing was probably 1.5meters long, i think he was the one who's name is also a swear...Heer

Gecko, geeeckooo, G-E-C-K-O. Not lizard... :)

You are talking about geckos, not lizards. They are cute in my opinion, and I kind of like the Tokkai gecko nocturnal serenade. I don't get any in my apartment though, even if it's just a fifth floor and I see them on the ground floor walls.

Is this the kind of lizard you are affraid of?

If so they are extremely shy and won't do you any harm.

The Monitor lizards (gia) can be quite intimidating though, what with being the size of a small crocodille and all; but again harmless for humans.

Year 2009, planet BKK house, the war between the dogs and giant monitor lizard still rage on. In the recent battles the Doberman allied with the Boxer and eliminates few smaller ones. But the 4 feet Big Balck that left scar on the Doberman is still out there. I know he'll be back... :)

You can spray them with straight dettol, this kills them, or otherwise shoot them with a childs pop gun that fires plastic balls, lots of fun.

I quite like Gecko but I don't like all the droppings which do stain.

I've seen the same - quite a surprise for a built up area....

Get a cat they eat them. yum yum.

Also Felines and reptiles are just natural enemies so they will look after any snakes you may have on the eighth floor as well.

My town house is full of them. Provide endless amusement, when the usual rubbish is showing on UBC, with their antics in trying to maintain their territory. We used to name them but had trouble telling them apart as their numbers increased. We also have a Tokay Gecko which lives quite near the kitchen sink, about 30 cm long and I see him every night. Very timid so quickly disappears. Live and let live. The small ones eat mossies and ants and the Tokay eats roaches among other things. Their crap is a pain though.

Nothing to fear. What I don't like is being woken up by large wolf spiders running across my chest. Has happened a few times.

The Gekos have tiny layers of hair on their feet which enable them to climb upside down on ceilings.

I can't understand how anyone could be scared of them, unless one fell from the ceiling into your mouth whilst sleeping perhaps.

The monitor lizards are a different kettle of fish. We have one that lives over the road. Big bad brute - you wouldn't want that in your house. I think the reason Thais use the monitors as an insult is because they often live near sewage outlets and feed on crap.

You should worry more of the Boa snake. Earlier this year my friend met 5 feet one in his downtown house less than 2 km. from the Emporium..

Boa? pfft! try a frikkin' cobra as I saw on my office's parking (not far from RCA road). :)

I like all lizards. They do a lot of good, but I know what you mean about the monitor lizards. This guy was 7 feet long and came every day at lunch time to feed on the chicken bones we tossed out.

These guys are good to have around though...

But I'm not so sure about these...

...and because monitor was the great chicken raider. Another word to call "Here" is "ตัวกินไก่" (tua kin kai), the chicken eater.

Wow, I thought only snakeheads creep around RCA ! :D

I suggest the OP visit the Dusit Zoo, and not for the caged variety, go take one of those paddleboats on the lake and take a look at the size of those monitors - look like mini komodo dragons.

Then when you see a little gecko running around your house eating mossies, you'll be thankful that it wasn't one of those dragons from the zoo.
