Overstay & Passports

Featured Replies

I understand about 20,000 max penalty for overstay, need to 'regularise' quite quickly & have 2x Passports.

1. Can the penalty be paid at a land (visa-run) border or is payment only possible at BKK airport?

2. Will said passport be 'marked' relating to the overstay?

3. Can I use P/Port #1 to depart Thailand and enter (say) Laos and P/Port #2 to get the visa to Thailand and use it to come back to Thailand?

Thanks

1 If you have a long overstay the airport is your best bet , I do not recommend a land boarder it has been known that big over stayers have been held and set to the immigration center in BKK

2 they just put an overstay stamp in your passport and does not cause any problems in the future

3 The passport you use must have an entry stamp and your white departure slip.other wise you will end up trying to answer a lot of questions

I am sure others will give you more info soon and correct anything that I maybe wrong about.

As said you can pay at border if you make it - there are often police checks of traffic and you could be arrested. A second problem could be the other country refuse you entry when seeing the overstay stamp. Both are unlikely but could lead to time in jail. There is also a possibility of being detained, even at airport, with long overstay until a police investigation is conducted to be sure you are not wanted. But airport is best choice always.

You can not make a passport change at a land crossing.

If all in order there should not be any problem returning with such a stamp.

mate of mine did a run to Lao two weeks ago -- had overstayed 425 days -- paid his 20,000 not problems -- small stamp in his passpast port showing the overstay - end of story -- might depend on who happens to be sitting in the little booth on the thai side of the border i guess -- he was very relieved -

Thanks good luck men

good luck men no problem you paid overstay buth the custom dont like verry much people like you to many overstay if you applie for another thai visa maybe you cant have one to manny overstay thats why the visa rules change a lot too many people dont care abouth overstay in thailand so chok dee khrap you will needed

There is no problem obtaining a visa with overstay stamp(s). It is a non-issue once paid. It is not something anyone should knowingly do but it is not the major reason for frequent visa rule changes.

I've been told 1 day over stay is now 5000 baht fixed fee then 200 baht a day. This was at friendship bridge Laos last week!!!!

500 baht (not 5000); and it changed years ago.

500 baht (not 5000); and it changed years ago.

I recall some ten years ago when there was this minority circle that was calling for a end to the standard 20K maximum fine {which is a bargain in anyone's book}.....the stronger authorities shot this piece of legislation down. Think of the cash they could make if rescinding the long-standing maximum fine at Bht500 per day......could easily get into the tens of thousands.
