CHONBURI: -- Police in Thailand's eastern province of Chonburi today launched an investigation into the brutal murder of a foreign tourist who was found almost decapitated by a roadside in Sattahip district this morning.

Investigative officers from Phlutaluang police station said that the middle-aged foreigner had been attacked with a sharp object which had nearly severed his head, and caused extensive injuries to his chest, arms and hands.

Although officers said that the motive was probably robbery, it was notable that Bt5,440 was found in the man’s trouser pockets.

Maybe a grudge job (although I would have thought that the murderer would have taken the money to make it look like robbery.

or maybe the murderer just took the gold if the victim was wearing any...

or maybe the murderer was disturbed and had to get away quickly and didn`t have time to search the victim....

This could be the beginning of something more disturbing than the tsunami. Did you notice the similarity of the near decapitation of the victim, and the total decapitation of the recent hostages in the news? A terrorist to make his point probably would leave the money behind, as a signature that this is not a robbery.

These acts if they continue, could be more devistating to the tourist industry than the tsunami.

Maybe some sick person wanna revange of this Swed guy to kill thai girl, it dont sound like normal killing, as i have been in investigation business last 10yrs.

Some one just wanna show that if foreigner kills thai they will strike back in same way.

But any how we are not going to see any arrest on this one.

Now we are stretching things....

any news as to where the man was from i know death of this type happens the world over but in thailand it seems there are a lot less sober resoning for it

Some theories cropping up here that are as dumb (or at least as unfounded) as the cops' robbery one...

This sort of thing happens in the US every day. So often, in fact, that on a national level, it is hardly noticed

You can get robbed without getting cleaned out. He could have been down to his last 5,000 Baht and had it taped to his balls.

Solution to this one is simple. There simply weren't any tall hotel buildings for him to jump off of to commit suicide so he simply stabbed himself 55 times, including almost decapitating himself....

Briton has Throat Cut in Thailand Attack

A British man was found murdered in Thailand with his throat slit, police said today.

The body of Bernard Le Court, 52, a chef from Liverpool, was found in roadside bushes near the tourist resort of Pattaya, 40 miles south of Bangkok.

A taxi driver has been arrested on suspicion of killing Mr Le Court to rob him to pay off a gambling debt.

Police Major Kataphol Somnuek, said: “He died after his throat was cut deeply by a knife.”

The victim’s money, camera and video camera had been stolen.

Police arrested a taxi driver who is suspected of killing Le Court after picking him up in Pattaya on Tuesday night and allegedly robbing him to pay the debt, Maj Kataphol said.

His body is in hospital awaiting an autopsy by Thai authorities.

He has a twin brother, Michael, who is also a chef in Thailand and recently married in the country.

Both brothers are from Liverpool and are believed to have sold-up to live and work in Thailand.

Thai police said the attack almost severed Mr Le Court’s head and also caused extensive injuries to his chest, arms and hands.

They said that, although robbery was the probable motive, they found more than £70 in local currency in the victim’s trouser pockets.

The Foreign Office would not confirm the victim’s details as all his next-of-kin in the UK have not yet been informed of the tragedy.

The suspect faces the death penalty if found guilty of murder under Thai law.

It didn't say the it was the foreigners gambling debt. I thought it was saying the taxi driver had a gambling debt and needed to rob someone to pay it off...

In the US it wouldn't really even be news unless it was in a really small town and then it would only be news in that town.

ive just seen the news of this on uk tv of collection of the body fom the bushes and being taken away it was on at 9:45pm for 30 seconds but nothing about the other brit who was arrested

Taxi Driver Held for Murder of British Tourist

A Thai taxi driver has been arrested after the body of a British tourist, whose throat had been split, was found near the resort of Pattaya.

The body of Liverpool chef Bernard Norman LeCourt, 52, was found in some bushes near a road in Chonburi province’s Sattahip district, 40 miles south-east of Bangkok, said police Major Kataphol Somnuek.

“He died after his throat was cut deeply by a knife,” said Kataphol, adding that the victim’s money, camera and video camera had been stolen.

Police arrested a taxi driver who is suspected of killing the Briton after picking him up in Pattaya last night and allegedly robbing him in order to repay a huge gambling debt, Kataphol said.

The suspect faces the death penalty if found guilty of murder.

LeCourt travelled to Thailand alone on February 24 and was scheduled to leave toda
