I don't believe these guys were "dating" the boys they went with. If your son did the same thing as them, he'd be just as guilty.

according to the Nation, the rationale for reducing the sentence was different than the OP, which sounds like humantarian reasons:

Woods had lodged an appeal on grounds that he had been sentenced on several different charges that in fact stemmed from the same action. He argued that he should have been sentenced only for the charge that carried the heaviest penalty.

The Court of Appeals agreed to commute the sentence, because taking children away from their parents and procuring children could be considered the same act. It considered production and distribution of pornography as separate charges.

These guys deserve what they get because they take advantage of the dire financial situation of the victims, using them to satisfy their perverted needs. Whether they are truly sick or evil is irrelevant.

Interestingly, there is another group of Farang men taking advantage of the dire financial situation of some Thais - the victims are Isaan women this time, and the age gap is wider than in the case discussed here.

I'm sure there will be apologetics coming up with "consent" again - but is there really such a thing in either case? Or is it the desperate need of the very very poor that these sicko Farangs are taking advantage of?

Interestingly, pedophles usually choose the age at which they themselves were abused.... Anyway, I rather favor castration via belt sander for pedos. Its the sexual drive that underpins it - without yer balls you don't have the desire to sexually abuse kids (or yourself, for that matter) This wouldn't work for child abusers, just pedos.

What about the folks who do it for financial reasons? Ie. to satisfy the need of other pervs, who would gladly fork out the cash for pics and videos? You may end their own desire for perv sex, but the money incentive is still there...

I could imagine that first comes their urge to be with the children and then the need to raise the funds to enable them to carry out their dastardly acts. The linking of one with the other just serves their purpose.

Nothing much to add here but I like the voice of reason that comes from your posts. A "witch-hunt" mob mentality does little either to understand the phenomenon of pedophilia, to prevent/cure/manage it, or to help its victims (and I would also regard the pedophiles themselves as victims of a sort- victims of feelings they did not ask to have).

One of the things I have had increased respect for my Mother about in recent years- when I was in college she ran a series of Sunday school meetings and weekly dinners at her home for young adults in the church. One of these young adults was a reformed pedophile (had been to prison, served his sentence, was out). Far from trying to burn him at the stake or run him out of town, she showed a willingness to forgive and socialize with someone who must have had a very unhappy life.

I see your point. However, it is very difficult to feel sympathy for those who cannot - or will not - keep these feelings suppressed. Every one of us has feelings sometimes that, if we acted upon them, could get us a jail- or death sentence.

What makes us different from criminals is that we suppress those emotions. If we can do it, so can they. The ones who hurt others by letting their urges loose, deserve no sympathy, IMO.

I agree with that. However, I made my comment specifically in response to the suggestion that this particular offender should be castrated. Even if he loses the urge, if he sees it as a profitable act, there will be an incentive to continue - solely for money this time.

But you are right; in general, I'd also imagine it would happen in the order you described.
