Bill Clinton showed poor judgment when he decided to go to North Korea and bow deeply in front of the north Korean dictator Kim Jong-il .

It was of course great to get the girls released, but the actual work was done by US diplomats at the UN who in that position were able to communicate with north Korean officials, and the complete deal was done and agreed prior to Bill Clinton going there, and the girls should have been 'say' collected by US officials of minor grade than that of a former two term US president.

For the North Korean dictator it was no doubt a great political coup, taking the moral high groung by releasing the convicted girls, unfortunately for Bill Clinton, and therefore the US it was the opposite, his comportment in front of Kim Jong-il was that of a shy man showing none of the authority that a past US president must portray when ever, and where ever, he goes on a mission.

Clinton has no official standing, per se. It shows what is important and that is people. It's about time someone in the gov't or around the gov't figures that out.

I think he done a brilliant job: its no secret that the "Dear leader" gets great kudos (if only in the DPKR - which is where he needs to show it after all) from high profile visits. Afterall, its not as if Western leaders are linning up to meet the guy - he's pretty much rejected, and presented with the oppurtunity of meeting a person of BC's prominence, with the international credit the guy has, the Dear Leader grabbed it with both hands.

In return Clinton no doubt got a commentry from the horses mouth that would probably not have been given to the "Great Satan" (there'll be a lot that was said between the 2 that wil not see the light of day/media for a long time to come).

Diplomats ofetn comment that it is so-called "side-line" meetings like these during which the real progress in problem solving is made.

We will of course have to wait and see - but one thing we can be sure of: there's going to be no shortage of speculation from social/economic and political commentators........
