i know the rule is 400,000 in the bank or 40,000 every month, but i am wondering this year which of the two they ask for - last year they werent interested in the money in the bank and they wanted to see monthly transfers.

has anybody extended their visa recently? what did they ask for?

i am talking strictly about samui Imm.

Last year there was no option to go for the 400.000 in bank (unless grandfathered), they changed this November 2008.

Other change is that it must be husbands account/salary, no joint accounts or joint income.

If you have had extension before the money must be in bank for three months, first timers need only two months.

So you can choose your method

Checked this last time doing my reporting, going for extension in three weeks.

Good luck.

I received my first extension two weeks ago on Samui, 400k in my own account (1 week short of 3 months) was accepted with no problems.

We had all the correct paperwork, no photos or map required.

One upfront warning: there may be a difference between the official fee and what is requested - I would advise deciding how to handle this before you go...

I'm dreading going there next month now that I know I've been ripped off for 5000 baht the last few years. Did you pay only 1900 bt Paradise? Did they kick up a stink about it?

No surprises that they are the happiest Immigration Office in Thailand. They have been getting away with this for years.

For anyone that wants to know the official fee is 1,900 Baht :)

normally when you fill the T.M.7 form, the fee is written, do they provide papers with the feee removed or do they invent some kind of excuses to justify the ongoing scam?

Hua Hin used to want 12,000......so 5,000 although wrong is cheap......I dont need extensions anymore but what would be the best way to handle this issue for other members???

When initially applying for your "married man extension" visa , along with the required photocopies , the application officially should to be accompanied by a statement explaining the reasons for the application , when you met , how long married , etc. etc. . . . typed in Thai and countersigned a responsible Samui-based Thai verifying the validity of the information.

By paying the additional "fee" all of this paperwork is handled in-house and verified by the immigration officials on your behalf and any minor problems ironed-out. Refusal to pay any more than the 1,900 baht will almost certainly result in instructions to go away & to return with the correct Thai written statements and EVERY point of your application will be scrutinised and if possible , refused if they can find any reason , however minor ( one week short of 3 months untouched funds being a prime example).

Whilst I agree it is annoying , an extra 3,100 baht per year is a small price to pay to ensure the application is fast-tracked through the system without any problems and I am pretty certain you wouldn't get much change out of 5,000 baht if you got one of the local "lawyers / visa specialists" to handle the paperwork.

My feelings exactly. If the official fee was 5,000 I would not have a problem with it.

Sorry the fee is 1,900 Baht . Anything else is a scam.

This was discussed in a prior thread, yes it is a scam but do you seriously want to take on the system? You are more likely to jeopardise your future here than make any difference if you object.

a friend of mine is paying the normal fee(he's retired but dunno what reason he chooses to extend his stay anyway)his thai wife likes to get things clear and done the right way.

all she did is print the fees in thai and speak loudly with the girl at the reception desk, the next day she came back with the husband and the desk girl remembered her, the fee was 1900.

i presume the paper work was correct and no fault could be found in his application.

Bribery and corruption......yes it is a small price to pay for ease of mind but it is wrong......I wouldnt pay at Hua Hin so went to Kap Chong, fantastic and only 1,900.....of course since February you have to visit the local immigration so if I did still require extensions I would have to pay up but where does it stop......

There is a report in the Visas forum that Bangkok Immigration is now fingerprinting and photographing visa extension applicants. Anyone encounter this in Samui?

I think this is a very sensible comment, and an unfortunate reality
