Perhaps your Amphur office is best bet for local, I did see one translation place advertising that they have an Australian JP but that is in BKK.

Hi Fred ,,,if it is a Victorian D/L ,, you can do that over the phone and payment is by credit card (vicroads ,, +61398542666) ,,, providing they have your photo in their data base,, and that means a phone call ,,,,,, if not you will be able to download a photo kit form from their website and do the same as me ,,,,,, l would presume that other states offer the same service ,,,,

hope that helps

If your Australian drivers licence ( valid for 5 years) you will be issued with a new licence which has a new photo.

Last time I renewed my licence in Qld it was done by myself, paid by EFT and a receipt issued.

You should check to see if you have to be in Australia to renew your licence. You also sign the licence before it

is processed and the photograph (digital) is taken, then the licence is laminated. They also check your current address in Australia.

Usually a consular official at the Australian Embassy can witness a stat dec. Bank Managers also can do it, but try explaining to a Thai bank manager he is merely witnessing, not signing away his wife, kids and house :)

I am not sure if you can google it but there used to be a document online on who can witness a stat dec, and also limits the types of people overseas who are recognised as able to witness your stat dec overseas. I am not sure if the requirements vary from state to state, but my case was for a stat dec to be used in Victoria.

l have been in contact with Vicroads ,,, and everything can be done while l am overseas ,,,because my licence has been expired for more than 6 months l have to get a new photo and fill out the photo kit form (stat dec) ,,,, $46.60 for 3 years ,,, no problems from them ,, its just finding someone here qualified to witness such documents ,,,,,, l know in Aus ,, just about anyone and their dog can witness it ,,,but here they dont even know what a statutary declaration is ,, first stop ,, police ,,, then Amphur,,and so on ,,,

and Fred ,, you had better check the website for your WA licence , it could be different from Vic ,,, thanks for the replies

Had the dame problem with signing a Stat. Dec. for a divorce that my ex wife wanted. Went to the local Amphur and saw the head hondo. At first he Hummed and Hawwed muttering about translatiops etc. I the said all you have to do is see me sign it, I swear that it is the truth and then you sign it! OK he said, we did just that and then he got that big Govt. stamp and stamped at the bottom. It's all in Thai so the Aussies won't understand it. As long as it looks official they will accept. Of course if you do have any problems, the sealed envelope with you know what inside will probably work wonders!icon1.gif

From the Vicroads form:

An authorised witness includes any of the following people:

• an employee of VicRoads

• an accredited licence assessment provider or agent

• a member of the police force

• a consular or ambassadorial officer

• a person authorised to witness and sign statutory

declarations

Living in rural Isaan it is probably going to be inconvenient, but a trip down to the Aust Embassy to use one of their consular officers is probably the safest bet (although they will charge you). It will probably save some hassle if Vicroads needs to speak to the witness to verify their credentials & that they witnessed the form (I am just picturing them trying to ring up and speak with a rural Isaan policeman!)

thanks for all the replies ,,, the best thing was for me to do as VicRoads suggested , and that was to get a local policeman who can read and write english to witness the form ,,, the job is done with only a small degree of difficulty ,,, l will send it off and see what happens ,,,,
