Help, Cant Install Thailand Map

Featured Replies

I bought recently a Garmin 705 from ESRI for 33,000.- (i know,- i paid 100% over marketprice)

It came with Thailand Street Map v9.0 NT installed. (plus the IMG File on a CD)

ESRI Maps don' t work with Garmin Programs like " Garmin Training Center" :)

Garmin stopped selling Thailand Installer DVD's

I downloaded " Thailand V2009 R4-INSTALLER" but it does not install any map although its found in Programm Files.

googleling for Days now, and downloaded countless IMG Files but be unable to actually install a Map.

Somebody help me please!

If you bought the Garmin in Thailand, the map should have been installed. There should be no reason for you to install anything. Take the GPS back to where you bought it and they will take care of any problems you have.

the Unit works fine, but ESRI Maps don' t work with the Garmin Training Center, and the basemap has no Roads down here.

I need someone to help me to install another Thailandmap ( I don' t care which version) on my Computer which works with Mapsource and Training Center.

I don't see anything in your post that mentions your computer. I don't know what Garmin training center is. Garmin no longer sells the ESRI Thailand map and when they did, it wasn't compatible with Garmin Map Source. The ESRI map is not compatible with Map Source and will not work on your computer.

Okay, thank you. Perhaps I was not clear enough.

to clarify the situation.

i need help from someone who actually can help me with the installation of an Thailand Street map in order to be able to use Garmin Training Center and map Source.

I could always switch to Google View but that take endless with that amount of Data.

free or for an professional Fee. I appreciate any Help.

As said, the ESRI map you have in your Garmin unit cannot be used anywhere else, especially with other Garmin programs such as MapSource, on a computer. Even Garmin's City Mavigator Southeast Asia, their current map covering Thailand, is not supplied in a format that can be used with MapSource.

IMG files have to be broken down (extracted) into their individual component parts before a complete map can be installed to MapSource. Example: Rotweiler's All Thailand map is composed of 31 individual maps that must be extracted from the root file before the map set will install into MapSource. Special software is required to do this.

Closing this Post now, I would like to thank everybody who contributed to help me solving my Issue.

Big thanks also to Thaivisa.com and this Forum. I really helps to get contact to people out there wo you would not find in the Telephone Book.

:)

McGee, Garmin has not released an official Mapsource map of Thailand (at least, in recent times).

It is, however, possible to convert a GPS image file (.img) into a version that can be used in Mapsource - albeit, without the search ("where to") function.

I will send you some links by PM where you can find all the information you need on how to do this. However, I don't have the inclination to do it for you.

Good luck.

there are two maps available on a well know file sharing site, I think it is version 8 and a version 9. I have got version 8 to work on mapsource. I am not at my main computer at the moment but over the next day or so i will be and i can then post details of the exact version.

Sorry just saw the thread was closed so ignore my post

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your Post. I still appreciate any post to feed my appetite of Information with regards to the use of my ESRI Products with garmin Software.

It is ridicioulus that we have to rely on pirated Products since Garmin does not provide maps of our Area and ESRI for some mindblowing reasons have his products not working with those.

Not so, Garmin City Navigator Southeast Asia NT is their current product that covers all of Thailand. Better road detail in some places than the ESRI map. However, still will not work with MapSource on a computer.

Check out Garmin MobileXP for the computer as it works directly with .img files. Also, there is MibilePC which works with mobile phones. These products will not work with MapSource sources, they only work with .img files so you will probably want to have both installed. MobileXP should get you running on your PC without decompiling the .img file.

ESRI should be willing to help with the install if needed since you purchased the GPS and maps from them. MobilePC should be available for around b4000. Might even be able to purchase it from ESRI direct. Last I noticed the current version was 5.00.60.

Later...

Theres a very simple once click install program for 8.1 version Thai maps.

Remaining within forum rules I wont link, but if someone was to PM me...
