New Passport

Featured Replies

I’m sure this has been discussed before, but would like an update on this subject.

I work in Overseas on a 35x35 day rotation, so I enter & exit Thailand every 5 weeks. My passport fills up very quickly.

Previously I have always used Chiang Mai Immigration, very helpful people. Now with new regulations I must go to Mae Sai, I believe them not to be so helpful. Also quite far from my village, actually my house is nearer to Chiang Mai.

Regarding transfer of Extension etc, what would they require anyone been through this???

BTW I’m on retirement Extension, expires in Jan 2010. I will most likely change my passport next month in BKK British Embassy.

Any advise please members

When you get your new passport, the embassy in BKK should provide you with a letter to take to immigration requesting them to transfer your permission to stay to your new passport. I assume you hold a multi entry re-entry permit because of frequent travelling. This will not be transferred and you will need to use the old passport in combination with the new passport when you re-enter Thailand until such time as you need to obtain a new re-entry permit.

pschef, I doubt that 35 days will be enough time to get a new passport, then go to the immigration office to have stamps transferred. Give the British embassy a call to find out how long it takes to get the passport.

I understand that the immigration office will transfer the extension stamp, the re-entry permit and your arrival stamp to the new passport, make an annotation in your old passport about the new passport, and an annotation in your new passport about the old passport and the visa you originally had in the old passport.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

It takes about 10 days to get a new passport.

The only thing that immigration does not transfer over is visas so they will transfer over your re-entry permit.
