Just had this snake sighting. It was first seen climbing a tree and then lowered itself to the ground and crossed the road. Looks it had eaten a bird or small mammal judging by the lump in its belly. Was about 1.5m long and moved very slowly. Looked like a python. This was seen in urban Bangkok, On Nut. Any ideas what it is?

Yes. I wasn't going to get much closer, even though he had just fed. I rekon it was probably a juvinile - will probably grow a lot bigger. Will keep my eyes open whilst walking down the soi in future.

Definitely a python, there are lots of snakes in Urban Bangkok. I have been confronted by cobras, and the rat snake many times , up to now have not been bitten just dirty underwear

I've seen a couple snake posts on this site. I picked up a great little book (pocket size) at Kinokuniya Book Store at Siam Center in BKK called, A Photographic Guide to SNAKES and other Reptiles of THAILAND and South-East Asia, by Merel J. Cox, et al. It is written in English, has beautiful color photogaphs (if snakes can be beautiful). With this book, I have been able to identify every snake I have seen A Very high quality book; highly recommended. It is 3 3/4" wide x 7 1/2" tall, cover green and white.

Hi, yes I have this book but it is up at Pak Chong with the rest of my books at the moment. I agree it's excellent. The same publishers also do a photographic book on mammals of Thailand. Slim volume with white and red cover. For birds I use the Morten Strang photo guide. All these three are light enough to use in the field.

Cheers,

Easy one, a python as already mentioned.

Watch out for any cats or other small-ish pets that you may have, they have a habit of going missing when a python is lurking.

From the looks of that photo some small pet has almost certainly gone missing!

It was a wild bird, a Spotted Dove that went missing. If you look in the background, the bird on the ground was probably the Doves mate. The python moved very slowly along the telegraph wires and caught the bird before lowering itself from a tree next to the wires. And then lowering itself to the ground and casually crossed the road. Quite something to see.

We have two puppies. They are kept inside at the moment.

that's a reticulated python by the looks of it it's just eaten a big rat from around the garbage cool to see in the day they are normally nocturnal. Bankgkok eh ? still a 24 hr town.
