Hi,

I want to bring my family to a very nice hotel or resort 3 stars with bungalow in front of very beautiful beach. Can you help me? Where is the nicest beach in Khao Lak? Can i visit the similan island in one day and take a speed boat from the hotel?

Which island is nicest in Koh Similan?

Thanks a lot :)

Khao lak is a nice quite place, Most of the places have been rebuilt because of the tsunami, There were eight villages there before the tsunami. Now there are three. Most of the buildings are new and are actually on the beach , that is to say they have there own beach thats how close you are to the sea, The beaches are clean, And you can walk for miles North, South there are a few rocks but not a problem .The place is family orientated, so no bar girls . You can get there from Phuket, its About one and a half hours by taxi. about 1500 to 2000 baht , Or you can go from Phuket bus station , its about 200 baht each and takes approx two hours. The place is what you make it, it is a one road in, and one road out place , as you go through it north it takes two minutes , the beach is on the left .and the shops are on the right . obviously if you go south its the other way around. hope that helps you.

I stayed at the Orchid Beach resort (http://www.khaolakorchid.com/)

It was OK - nice adjoining rooms overlooking the pool - walk of less than 50 metres to the beach, no road between the hotel and beach. The hotel is at the end of the road so no passing traffic.

Very quiet, beach was OK, a little muddy but I think it depends on the time of the year, not as good as Kata and the nicer beaches around Phuket but we'd have the place almost to ourselves. It was in May I think, so not in high season, the hotel was fairly quiet.

We caught a taxi from Phuket airport - the best thing to do is hire a car at the airport and drive yourself. (Taxi 1000baht each way - a car costs about that much per day and then you can get around a bit). We hired a car once we got to the hotel - Avis or one of the other big companies - they delivered it to us. Very handy for a couple of trips to the waterfalls, dinner/lunch etc at nearby places (much cheaper than the hotel) and just looking around.

I liked the place - there's not heaps to do but the kids liked the pool and it was good for walks along the beach. Nice and relaxing - I'd go again.

There were lots of brochures for trips to the Similans - 1 or more days, so easy to get to but I think it also depends when you are going.

Hi atchara

When were you thinking about coming? Beaches depend on season. But I personally find the beaches near Pakarang to be the most beautiful. The most luxurious resorts are in that area as well. But you can still get some cheaper options.

You can get a speed boat from pretty much any resort to the Similans.

Hope this helps.

Beaches are nice in December. Again I would opt for the Pakarang area. There are white sand beaches in that area. Further North tends to be more crowded and not as beautiful. Good luck!

Any more informations and experiences?

Can recommend 'Briza resort' - can get good cheap rates and it's probably the best value in the bunch at that end of Khao Lak - nearer to Phuket airport than the main part. Beach is nice and the rooms and hotel generally is well kept with good modern decor etc. Restaurant & ABF isn't amazing, but it's good value all the same. Feels like a 4 star resort with a couple of minor corners cut to get it at 3 star prices.

By the way, fixed price taxis can be got from the Phuket airport - there's a taxi rank at the right side as you exit - so ignore the touts hassling you as you come out and just walk to the right till you see official 'meter taxis' and ask there.
