Anyone Use/buy Mucodyne (carbocisteine)?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am blessed with a chronic but happily non life-threatening respiritory condition called Bronchiecstasis which benefits from daily doses of a mucolytic medication, proprietary name "Mucodyne 375mg" (chemical is carbocisteine) capsules.

I'll be bringing as many as I can squeeze out of my GP when my wife and I re-locate to Thailand from the UK in the next few weeks but a time will come when I'll need to obtain them in Thailand.

Does anyone else on this forum use this med or maybe have the same condition?

I currently use a pack of 120 each month - does anyone know how much a generic version might cost me or from where they might be obtained?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Carbocisteine is a fairly commonly prescribed medication and I am reasonable sure it will be available even over the counter in Thailand.

Many thanks FBN that's put my mind at rest.

The product here when I checked briefly at a small pharmacy on Sukhumvit Rd is called "Fluimucil" which is acetylcisteine and seems to have the same action.

It is available in 100, 200 and 600mg powder and efervescent tabs (600mg) and costs about Bht200 for 10 tabs.

Carbocisteine should be available also from hospitals and perhaps other pharmacies but suggest to check with your GP if this generic would be acceptable.

Have a good trip!
