I completed my TESOL course over 2 years ago and am looking to advance furthe in the field of teaching. I don't have a degree and the online ones seem a bit on the expensive side for me. I am currently teachin in Bangkok and make about 40,000 a month so I'm doing OK for someone without a degree.

I was just looking at a diploma that Chichester College are offering for $1,800 and was thinking of doing it. It's online so I can work at the same time.

My question is is there any point in doing it if I don't have a degree, what advantage is it to me?

There isn't much point in doing this course without having a degree. I don't know that it will help you to get significantly better employment. However, more education never hurts anyone and if you have the time and financial resources to do so, and the desire, it's not a bad idea.

If you think it will provide financial rewards, that would a questionable assumption.

I don't do any further educational courses because the cost-ratio benefit isn't worth it. I am too far into my career and too near retirement. If I take any courses, it will be because I really want to and they probably won't be related to my work.

I was thinking that myself. I just wasn't sure if it would benefit or not. It's a bit costly and like you said I think with out the degree there's not much point. Online degrees are not easy to find that suit me.

To us Yankees, a diploma is any paper earned in one day to many years, up to post-graduate level, and a college is a university. Chichester's diploma is not a baccalaureate degree - right? Not worth US$1800 then for teaching in Thailand. In my opinion.

Yeah I think I'm gonna give it a miss. Anyone know where I can do a 'Distannce Learning' bachelors degree for a reasonable price?

University of London - External Programme. Starting from around £2,800, depending on the subject you want to study. Not that I've tried it myself, but they must be pretty high quality.

University of London external course - is the best I have seen.

You pay and get the books/study plan shipped to you September/October

Take the exams in Bangkok in June/July the following year.

You can finish in 3-4 years.
