Ok. This is a follow up to my previous thread regarding when was the first time you came to LOS? Really this is for those living here. So if you didnt make the move here. Where would you be now and what do you think you would be doing? For me i reckon i would be living in OZ. Working as a sparky. Maybe married maybe not. Who knows? Anyway. Look at your situation before you came to live here and make a judgement on what you think you'd be doing now and where you would be?

I'll contribute Jockstar. :D

Before I moved here from Oz, I was recently divorced after a marriage of 19 years... totally cleaned out, and very disillusioned with my lot in life. I was an engineer, earning reasonable money, but in debt up to the hilt thanks to my ex. :D

I first came here 3.5 years ago on a 2 month temporary assignment. I loved it. I must admit I fell off the rails a bit though... I spent far too much time and money having a party instead of checking out opportunities here. I was like a kid in a candy store, with a fist full of dollars and an unlimited supply of candy. :o

When my assignment was up I returned to Oz to continue working for the same company, but all I could think about was returning to Thailand. By continually pestering the management of the company they found a position for me after a couple of months in the Bangkok office and I joyfully said my goodbyes to family and friends and returned to Thailand. :D

New city, new job, new lifestyle... I was in heaven. I promised myself I wouldn't fall into the same trap I was in before, and that I would do everything I could to prove to myself and the company that I was capable of working well in this environment without being distracted. I wanted them to believe that through my efforts, their company would be in a better postion than before. Basically, making sure that my ongoing employment in Thailand was assured. The money wasn't great, but the cost of living here offset the lack of dollars in the pay packet, so al in all, I'm on a similar financial wicket here to what I would be on back in Oz.

It has worked... I am still here... and with the current work prospects, probably for at least the next 10 years too. And I'm very very happy about that. :D

If I didn't come here what would I be doing? Probably still working on boring jobs with the same boring engineering company... probably struggling to find a good woman... probably still berating myself about what went wrong in our marriage.. and generally probably very unhappy with my lot. :D

Thailand has rejuvenated and revived me... I am very luck to have been given this opportunity, and I intend to not let it slip through my fingers. :D
