We got this router from TRUE some years ago under a subscription on 1024/512 ADSL.

Recently I have observed that our speed is about 160-180% of our subscribed speed of 1Mbps, domestic AND international (the latest invoice still shows 1024/512)

We still pay only 599B+Vat/month

The router shows this info:

post-3742-1251899271_thumb.jpg

Is this info something that has been pre-programmed in the firmware or is it actual data supplied live by TRUE?

If the latter is the case that would mean they have upgraded us without informing us (I'm not complaining if this is the case!)

Run a speed test from Europe of USA and check what speeds you get. If you get more than you're supposed to be quiet as a church mouse; no need to have your ISP "fix" it....

I've run multiple speed tests to US and EU and all were around 1.6-1.8Mbps (same as domestic in TH).

I'm certainly not complaining!

Was only wondering if the router setting is done on the router or is obtained from the ISP according to what speed they provide.

the router will catch the transmitted bandwidth. You can limit some bandwidth use in some routers but what you receive is set by the media provider - not within your router. Sometimes you might have 30mb download speed... that can happen when the ISP is "playing" with the bandwidth cache. In your case you might have received an upgrade...

:) By tomorrow you will know or at latest when your bill arrives...

Probably True's marketing ploy -double your line speed for a period and then send you a letter asking if you want to upgrade your speed package.

Thanks webfact,

It has been like this for about six weeks now and I can't complain. The latest bill came just a few days ago.

So it looks like an upgrade without price increase or notification.

This could also be. You never know what tricks they use. Just have to wait and see.

We got this router from TRUE some years ago under a subscription on 1024/512 ADSL.

This package had a automatic upgrade earlier this year to 3 MB if your phone line can handle it for local speeds.. at no extra costs.

EDIT:

I have the same package 1024/512

Just run a speed test from Singapore

Last Result:

Download Speed: 3349 kbps (418.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 430 kbps (53.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

TEST TIME:: Thursday September 03, 2009, 04:31 AM

Looks like I'm one of the unlucky ones who got only upgraded to 2Mbps. Could well be our line can't handle more.

Anyway I'm not complaining since even 1Mbps suited our needs (except my son's needs of course!) and the line and speed was and still is very stable and reliable.

Added question to all of you who have been upgraded: What does your latest invoice show? The original 1024/512 or the upgraded speed?

[...] and the line and speed was and still is very stable and reliable.

If just the router would not freeze every now and then, right? :)

Yes, right, but this has now been confirmed to be an internal LAN issue between two of our PCs and has nothing to do with TRUE.

Try entering 192.168.1.254 on the url line of your browser.

This is usually the address of the router.

Logon, usually the password is "admin", or "password".

Then one of the pages will show you the adsl link setup and the theoretical speed you are connected.

This speed is set by the ISP and you cannot change it.

Not necessarily the same as the speed you get in downloads. :)

Astral, I know how to get into the router (192.168.1.1)

I found that the down-link shows 2048, so I was only wondering if this speed is pre-set by the firmware or if it is updated dynamically by True, but I guess I've got the answer from other posts already.

Thanks for all your replies.

Sure, just wanted to tease you a bit :)

Glad you could track down the issues. Don't forget to update your original thread when you finally solved the issue. People going through the archives will like to hear about the outcome...

I have a 512/256 service and it also increased speed - first to 30xx/480 and for last few days to 3552/576 connect speeds. Don't have a clue; but not complaining.
