March 19, 200521 yr I just booked some flights from the UK to Ireland during the summer. Aer Lingus told me I could get a good rate from Hertz so I thought I'd see what they were offering. One of the questions was "Country of Residence". I tried it twice putting in Thailand (my country of residence) and UK (where my driving licence is from) and the results were: Thailand: Cheapest car was €691 (B35400 ) UK: Cheapest car was £165 (B12100) If you're booking a car, be very careful if you're using your Thai licence - it may cost you 3 times as much! Of course, I'm not suggesting that anyone would put down the incorrect country of residence Fortunately I've got access to a corporate rate that was cheaper than both of these but I was amazed how much difference there was between the countries.
March 21, 200521 yr Is anyone surprised someone admitting they drive in Thailand would not be surcharged. I just wouldn't be able to cope with no overtaking on inside, outside, hardshoulder, central reservation, motorbikes coming straight at you,u-turns on dual carriageways,etc.,etc.
