Bizarre Wif-i Problem

Featured Replies

I bought a netbook recently and I'm having this strange problem with the Wif-i.

Specifics:

Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11g - version 3.00

ISP: reliable (works well with other computers)

Signal Strength: Excellent

Speed: 54.0 Mbps

Processor: VIA C7-M

Norton Internet Security updated (no viruses)

Genuine Windows XP software

Retailer: will not refund, not happy with it :)

The problem is that the wifi disconnects/reconnects constantly and it makes browsing a real pain in the neck. However, if I turn on the internet radio everything is fine! I rarely lose the connection and it's fast. Why is this happening? Does anyone have any good ideas? Does the wireless lan diver need to be reinstalled or should it be updated? I looked for updates at www.realtek.com.tw and can't seem to find anything. Please help! :D

This is a common problem with XP and wireless Internet as this Google search shows

A possible solution is detailed here

and this M$ knowledge base article may help

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826942 with patches that may be relevant to you

Good luck

Another good tip for the M$ Wireless Zero Configuration "feature" can be found here

NB. Technically, a "Feature" is a Bug that has been documented!!!

Thanks Thaimite. It was good information, but I tried it and I still had the same problem, unforutunately. I don't understand why it keeps doing this, but if I have the radio playing I stay consistently connected with almost no interruption.
