Hello,

I've searched through this site and found fantastic information, but I want to make sure I reading everything right. I am a USA citizen and have planned a trip to Nepal and SEA begingin in October and i am worried about my Thailand situation. I fly into Bangkok on October 3rd, then fly to Nepal on the 7th. I fly back to BKK on 10/26 for 7 days in Northern Thailand, then touring Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia before coming back into Thailand overland from Cambodia sometime around 11/20 and staying 20 days in thailand before leaving to Malaysia.

3 entries in thailand - Oct 3(air), Oct 26(air), Nov 20(overland)

So my question is, with a US passport, am I allright getting visas on arrival or should I try to get a multiple entry visa before I leave. Will I have to pay each time I enter Thailand? I read on the Thai Consulate's website that there will be no tourist visa fee, but is that if i get it in advance, or is it free each time I enter the country. Thank you so much for any help.

As tourist visa's are free until march 2010, I would just apply for a triple entry tourist visa and save any problems. Free means free so you do not have to pay anything before, during or after your visits.

This would be the best way to handle your trip as you will need a visa for your third entry. You could just apply for one entry but as it's free, get three.

As a US citizen you are entitled to enter Thailand on a visa waiver i.e. 30 day entry stamp (you call it visa on arrival. incorrect terminology) if arriving at an international airport.

You are entitled to 90 days out of 180 days and can leave and enter as many times so long as it does not total more than 30 days on any one visit and not more than 90 days out of 180 days. It does help if you have documentation to support your on-ward journeys. Less hassle when passing through immigration.

So your first entry is Oct 3 - Oct 5 = 5 days. No visa required if arriving at an international airport, but if immigration were to ask you for proof of on-ward journey will you have documentation, i.e. flight to Nepal

Second entry Oct. 26 = 7 days. No visa required if arriving at an international airport, but if immigration were to ask you for proof of on-ward journey will you have documentation, i.e. flight to Laos

Nov. 20. It is your third entry which is and will be the problem. Entering Thailand via a land crossing without a visa only entitles you to a visa waiver of 15 days even with supporting documentation. So I suggest you apply for a triple entry tourist visa before you depart the USA.

The 90 days in 180 limit doesn't exist anymore. But, agree the last entry by land would be a problem. If you can't obtain an extension, probably would have to do a border run again.

Hi Beachguy,

Please elaborate.

What doesn't exist?

How do they now apply the 30 day visa waiver these days?

Do you mean you can come and go without limitation.

Is this why they only give 15 day waivers at border crossings?

Always difficult to keep up!

What you know that I don't know anymore?

Is this just hearsay or based on personal experience?

Thanks

Unless the Sydney Thai Consulate website is incorrect the 90 days in 180 days does exist.

http://www.thaiconsulatesydney.org/Consula...0exemption.html

1. Foreigners exempted from Tourist Visa requirements

Nationals from 48 designated countries may travel to Thailand for the purpose of tourism as frequently as they wish without a visa and will be permitted to stay for a period of not exceeding 30 days on each visit. They may, however, re-entry and stay in Thailand for a cumulative duration of stay of not exceeding 90 days within any 6 month period from the date of first entry.

There is no limit on number of days since they changed to 15 day visa exempt at land borders. For those using more than 4 times in a row there may be questions asked to insure they are not illegal workers.
