I have been working with my thai company (i am the only foreigner in my company) for several years and we have four thai employees - the usual minimum number needed per work permit holder - on the company payroll. now i have heard that, if the foreigner holding a work permit is legally married to a thai citizen (wife) - as i am - only two thai employees are required on the company's payroll.

our company is located in bangkok. the information regarding only two thai employees needed was received from an acquaintance with a company upcountry. so, i wonder whether this regulation would also apply to a company in bangkok, or whether there are any differences depending on the company location (in which province).

anybody with information regarding this?

Correct, only two employees required when married to Thai citizen.

Also only need 1 million Baht in capital vs 2 million Baht if not married to Thai.

Yes, this is my understanding too.

The minimum number of Thai staff needed for a WP is actually zero, the 4 (or 2) staff needed is only applicable when extending the non-immigrant visa based on employment.

My last work permit that I received was for a company with zero Thai staff. I then extended my single entry Non-O visa for 1 year based on marriage (not employment).

Things may have changed since of course though.

Agree, never had to show any employees for my WP.

Though my WP is four years old, new applicants must show the required amount of employees.

Actually thought the rule was paying the tax on the number of thai staff. So farang needs least 4 thai employees or pay the tax on 4 thai employees?

Yes, Tax and social security receipts.

They can also come and take photos of your employees in their workplace.
