I saw my first firefly in Thailand yesterday. I was going from the computer room to the kitchen and passed by the darkened lounge when I saw the flashing light. I thought someone was having a bonfire in their garden until I realised it wasn't big and far away, but small and very close, and on the outside of the bug screen.

I managed to get a pretty poor video of it from inside the house.

I went outside and saw it crawl onto the wall, then take off and land on some lemon grass. Then it took off and went flashing around the garden. I followed it and it started to circle me then took off for the street.

VERY cool... one can only hope these bugs multiply, quickly, helping to solve the severe farang boredom factor in this country...

I saw loads of them in New Jersey just once, about 25 years ago. There were hundreds of them outside a restaurant flying around a large hedge. Quite a spectacular sight although my hosts said something like "Oh yeah, get them all the time. Have you never seen them before?".
