Hi was woundering about my situcation, ,,I work out side thailand for up to 3 to 4 months at a time and go bck for about 2 to 3 months ata time. Was woundering what I can do ,,,can I apply for a PR visa or what are my options, I go to thailand on an "O" visa usually. and after 6 years doing this eventually going to stay for longer terms between trips to thailand.

what would be some of my options, or has anyone else been in this situation ?

Are you over 50? Do you have a Thai spouse or child? For what reason is the non immigrant O visa being issued to you? There is no such thing as a PR visa and it does not seem likely your would qualify for PR status working outside the country. Suspect multi entry non immigrant O visas are your best option as long as they are available.

Yes I am married to a thai and have kids with her, not over 50 money is not an issue. and get imm"O" when I go there,

Believe the multi entry O is your best option until your stays in Thailand are longer. You could extend your stay for marriage but that would require extra re-entry permit and being in Thailand each year at same time to do again - which is a two step process 30 days or more apart.

Permanent residency is only awarded to a number of foreigners from each country each year.

But my question is... Why would you want it?

My response is ....

If someone meets the required criteria, why would they NOT want it?

Edit : Unless the expense is an insurmountable problem of course.

Copied from the pinned thread dealing with PR at the top of the forum:

"Fee of 191,400 baht (if single) or 95,700 baht if the spouse of a Thai national..."

Plus you still need to pay for re-entry permits.

While this amount might not be 'insurmountable' for some of us, it sure sounds like a lot.

I think I'll just continue paying 1900 baht per year, plus the occasional re-entry fee.

I don't think the OP was actually asking about PR.
