Bagwan
A friend told me yesterday that he is so sick of the local Internet speeds that he is thinking of buying a dedicated dish, pointing it to one of the satellites and hooking up to a Hong Kong ISP. Is this possible - or legal? If so at what cost? I am not from Barcelona - but I still know nothing.

Its like traveling from Bangkok to Pattaya via Phuket... The ISP your friend is most likely talking about is Speedcast, a subsidiary of AsiaSat and they use the C band on the Asiasat 4 satellite. It works great and even in the worst of the rains here in Thailand. The only autorised reseller in Thailand is CAT but they add another 100% on the actual direct cost from Speedcast (TiT). I have used the service in Laos and Cambodia with Speedcast direct and they charge about USD250 per month for their Bronze package.
