Electrical Problem

Hi guys

What do I need to do?

My computer says; RATING:100-127/200-240-,6/3A,50/60hZ

My tv says; AC 100-240 - 50/60Hz 2.5a

What do I need to buy or can I plug it straight into the wall?

My apologies for my lack of knowledge.

Also what about using the Thai multi plug extensions with my U.S items?

Thanks guys.

If your appliances are speaking to you, you need to visit a doctor.

"What do I need to buy or can I plug it straight into the wall?"

Nothing, assuming that the appliance plugs are compatible with the AC outlet. Yes, to the second part, assuming that the appliance plugs are compatible with the AC outlet.

What about them? The cheap ones aren't grounded, so you might want to buy something more substantial.

TV - plug it straight in, it has a universal power supply.

Computer - it will have a switch on the PSU, move it to the 220V position before plugging in.

If using a Thai extension watch out for those cheapies that accept 3-pin plugs but have only a 2-pin plug themselves, they do not connect the ground and could prove potentially hazardous.

Thanks guys.

hhgz- can you please be a bit more specific about the appliance plugs being compatable with the A/C outlet.

Also I thought I would use my U.S printer; 100-120v 50/60hz 0.6A and plug it straight into the wall, It did power up

for a second or two then it began to smoke on me.

This sounds a bit weird now, my appliances are speaking to me and now they are smoking. :)

What about buying a converter to be on the safe side?

Is it possible to buy one over here?

OK the printer is fried :)

Yes you can get converters easily here, but why bother when both your TV and PC will be happy on local power (don't forget to flip the switch on the PC).

Sorted now guys.

Thanks for the advice.

  • 2 weeks later...

the US runs a 110volt system here in Thailand we use a 220 volt system as you have found out the two DO NOT mix.

ok if you have anything else check to see what it uses, only plug in units that are rated for 220 volts.

now you can go to carefour or was it home pro?? and buy a box that converts the volts for you.

that means you plug the box into the wall and then you plug your item into the box and bingo you USA things now work in thailand without smoking!!!!

I bet the lights were bright on the printer for a few moments!!!!

Good idea to check the power rating of any voltage converter (wattage) before plugging in anything other than low power electronic gear. Or..more smoke..! :)
