Chastral Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 What does anyone have to say about the language schools here in Phuket? Has anyone attended for 3 or more months? If so, how far into the language have you gotten?
Atmos Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 What does anyone have to say about the language schools here in Phuket? Has anyone attended for 3 or more months? If so, how far into the language have you gotten? since no one else has responded . . . I haven't been attending for 3 mths yet, just 7 weeks with two 2-hour sessions per week. Course I'm doing is well-structured into units, sometimes one per session, sometimes one spread over 2 sessions. Realistically this has to be fairly basic stuff, though for myself I'm happy with progress to date after 28hrs. I'm fortunate that I have a Thai family as friends - their kids learn English at school and enjoy helping me with my Thai in exchange for some help with their English homework, just going to classes wouldn't work for me. Sitting in the car when we went north practicing counting back from 100 to 1 was the answer to getting my head round numbers, they'd say eg '48' and I'd respond in Thai. Basic stuff, as I said . . . I wouldn't say Thai is easy to learn and I have no expectations of fluency unless I spend the rest of my days here, and even then . . . Unsure what detail you're after, at this stage we've been covering possessive pronouns, negative forms of verbs, basic questions. So much depends on the teacher - maybe I was just lucky the one I've got is very enthusiastic and with a class maximum of six here's no 'hiding' with participation or pronunciation. I'll let you know when i get to three months. Reluctant to 'advertise a place' here on a forum, might upset someone, and I'm unsure how my course compares with other providers so I'll not say they're 'best' etc. PM me if you want more details.
mrjohn Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 "If so, how far into the language have you gotten?" Perhaps you would be kind enough to clarify, but I can only assume from this that English is the language that you need to study.

My last post was deemed to aggressive and was deleted, so I will try again. Why exactly do you feel the need to ridicule someone because of their grammar and spelling? Makes you a bit rude and obnoxious don't you think?

And welcome to the forum Chastral. Join up, ask a question and immediately have some grammatical prat on your case. Seemed a simple enough query to me. Don't let it put you off . . .
Patriot Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 And welcome to the forum Chastral. Join up, ask a question and immediately have some grammatical prat on your case. Seemed a simple enough query to me. Don't let it put you off . . . "Gotten" is actually a past participle of "get", so the OP was grammatically correct. Years ago Patong Language School provided me with a good basic knowledge in both spoken and reading. The one-on-one lessons are best, but make sure that your teacher doesn't try to hijack the lesson to improve her (or his) English Main thing is don't be disillusioned; get stuck in.
