Have a question and looking for some answers about my options to extend my A-O retirement visa. This will be my 5th extention of stay i am a USA resident. My extention runs out on Nov7th but i just found out i need to make a trip back home for family reasons this month so i understand i can renew my extention of stay 30 days prior to the Nov 7th date. Here is what i am wondering so any help would be great i am here on my pension which exceeds the 800 k but i would need to fly to BKK as i live in Loei to get the income paper from the embassy. Then i would need to fly back to Loei renew my extention then fly back to BKK to return home. Now to some maybe that the cost of doing this is does not seem much but to me thats seems like a lot of flying to get my extention. I have read that if you leave the country and come back in you can get an extention of from the date of entry for 1 year so if i went to chang khan and got a multi entry stamp and went into loas for a few days would i then get 1 year from that date.....or am i just stuck making 2 trips to BKK??

Thanks for the advise in advance.

You heard wrong. That is for a valid multi entry non immigrant OA visa issued by a Consulate outside of Thailand. What you have is apparently an extension of stay issued by Immigration for the last five years. Correct? That is not a visa and is not AO or OA. It is only an extension of stay and requires a re-entry permit for any travel to keep it alive. The re-entry permit only keeps it alive until the current permitted to stay until date. So unless your trip return will be before Nov 7 your extensions of stay will end and you will have to obtain a new non immigrant visa to start the process again.

If plane travel expensive you could use bus from Loei. Be sure to make an appointment at Embassy using computer to save time.

Or if you want just leave and let your retirement extension end and obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa for your return. Pick up Embassy letter before travel to Loei and then do your new retirement extension of stay. That should be cost effective with no need for re-entry permit.

I assume that your 'O-A' visa has expired since you have been here for over five (5) years; therefore, the visa cannot be used to re-enter Thailand. Your current extension of stay expires 7th November and must be renewed before that date. You can either renew your extension of stay or get another visa, non-immigrant 'O' or 'O-A', while in the states. If you renew your extension of stay don't forget a re-entry permit before you travel back to the states.

I hate to tell you but Loei no longer has any commercial flights.

Yes i know it is just and extention of stay and not a visa....after being here 5 years it was just a misnomer that i put it in a a visa. And yes i am aware that there is no flights out of Loei and would have to travel to Khon Kane or Udon and fly to BKK. Seems everyone is well aware of my type of extention of stay and sorry for putting the visa part in. My question still remains can i cross into loas for a few days and return and get a 1 year extention and buy a muliy entry at that point.

As already stated, no you cannot, if you are on an extension.

You could, if you wanted a short holiday,

get a re-entry permit,

go to Laos for a couple of days,

return and apply for your 1 year extension at immigration,

get another re-entry permit,

return to your home country and

return on your new re-entry permit..

That would meet your requirements as stated in your quote above, but not exactly what you want.

You can probably pick up a cheap ticket with Air Asia out of Udon.
