jasreeve17
Sorry if this has been posted before. It's a forbes list from a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure what I'm allowed to paste, so just the headline and the list below which I believe and hope, falls within correct rules and procedure. I personally doubt the accuracy of the list, but it makes for some interesting reading, so here goes: Thailand's 40 Richest Suzanne Nam, 09.23.09, 07:00 PM EDT Despite losses for nearly half of Thailand's wealthiest, the group's total net worth remains unchanged. Thailand's Richest Rank 1 Chaleo Yoovidhya 2 Dhanin Chearavanont 3 Chirathivat family 4 Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi 5 Krit Ratanarak 6 Chamnong Bhirombhakdi 7 Praneetsilpa Vacharaphol 8 Isara Vongkusolkit 9 Vichai Maleenont 10 Anant Asavabhokin 11 Vanich Chaiyawan 12 Surang Prempree 13 Thongma Vijitpongpun 14 Somporn Juangroongruangkit 15 Boonchai Bencharongkul 16 Thaksin Shinawatra 17 Prayudh Mahagitsiri 18 Nantha Chinthammit 19 Aloke Lohia 20 William E. mrtoad
The thing is that these lists can only be drawn up by the information that is available or allowed to be shown. Clearly there are people that are not on this list be it through the fact that it can't be shown, or it hasn't been declared. In the end it's only a list, and as there are a number of TV posters not on the list then - I don't think it's very accurate.
CarlBkk
Any links to the backgrounds of these people? Yes, next to each name should also be a scale of "niceness", "humility" and "humbleness" with examples. Could be an interesting read.
jasreeve17
Any links to the backgrounds of these people? If you type in Forbes Thailand richest to google, they have a brief overview of where each gains their wealth. Other than that it's googling the name... A lot of these folks don't really want information being known about themselves.

sinbin
A similar question got asked on 'Thailandqa.com' about 4 years ago. The question at that time was "name the 10 richest people in Thailand of Chinese origin" ? Having read in 'Forbes' who were, I replied to the question. I was banned for "borderline Les Majesty", so posters beware.
Heng
Which one is Heng? Dropped out of the list after losing most of it in Baht-Rupiah speculation. p.s. money means nothing if you aren't having fun on a day to day basis

sokal
Any links to the backgrounds of these people? You can be sure they will be of Chinese origin. I seen on Bloomberg that Chinese people are about 8% of the population but they control 80% of the wealth. I don't disagree with Thailands protectionist policies but why don't they apply them to the Chinese ?? Why sell out to the Chinese ?

I was banned for "borderline Les Majesty", so posters beware. The least said about Thailandqa the better. Comments are not allowed if they are different from the schoolmaster "You disagree with me?. Go to the back of the class, boy " Take a look. The main posts are from a guy in the UK regurgitating news snippets from certain Thai papers. Hardly a forum for discussion. Heng
And then press for protectionist policies... Ever been to a pro NFL or MLB game? Almost in every single game I've been to, no matter what the city, there are plenty of 'not in our house!' signs. Same concept. Do you have a lock on your front door? Do you welcome people parking in your driveway (pretend that your assigned parking space at your condo is a driveway for this example)? Same thing. Everyone protects their interests, it's just in this case, the whole country (and many countries in the region) is 'our house.'

jasreeve17
Heng: No, I have not been to one of those games; once went to Staples stadium for a game (yes, it was a box at the top; in the good old days when I had enough money to follow the capitalist mantra ). It appears ironic to some, but perhaps not to a Chinese / Thai landlord come sweatshop owner come tuktuk mafiosi, that the song for Thai nationalism and protectionalism is sung loudest by folks whose grandparents didn't speak Thai... My mediocracy is more than just apparent. Actually I bet our comfort levels aren't so far apart. If you can just get over whatever the minor (especially the part where you realize there's nothing you can do about it) perceived differences are, you'll be fine. jasreeve17
I'm thinking about moving to your area to sully the neighbourhood. I might even buy myself a Jaguar to sully in style - do you have a foodland and / or villa close to home? As soon as the missus' skin creams start working we'll fit in just fine...
