Hi,

I'm an American freelance writer and would like to move to Thailand for about one year. What kind of visa should I get to make this possible? Currently, I live in China and will not be able to go back home before I move. I look forward to your help.

Well, you can start with this here from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

Guidance for foreign journalists who wish to work in Thailand

www.mfa.go.th/internet/event/guidanceg.doc

Other than that, you are most likely just another one-year tourist with a laptop.

Education Visa 1 year stay, 23,000 baht: http://www.thailanguage-school.com/ed-visa...nt-visa-course/

there are many schools offering this, or retirement visa if you are 50 years old and up... :)

Be aware that work in Thailand requires a work permit so you would not want to be 'working on a book' regardless of the visa you had.
