Smile4u
Will Dreambox or similar improve signal from True vision (Ubc) on a big HD tv ? How can the problem with picture quality/stretching be avoided on 50' and larger? Is the bottleneck contrast ratio / brightness cd/m2 / or resolution ? Any spesific model and local dealer recommendations ? http://www.satthai.tv/2008/index.php http://www.anchorbaytech.com/dvdo_edge/
nikster
Ah... I got a Dreambox (basic HD-less model) installed and was sort of hoping for better picture quality... and.... nothing! Nope, still as bad as it used to be. So I think I can answer this one: The Dreambox doesn't help one bit. It's astounding but the problem still appears to be in the TVs stretching / upsizing algorithms - e..g. some people with HTPCs report that routing the image through their HTPC to upscale it produces much better results. If there are cheap & easy solutions I am all ears, but I am afraid there are none. The signal from the satellite is bad and very small, so creating a perfect upscaling effect like analogue TVs do is not easy. Actually analogue CRTS display the small image natively, but CRT technology produces a very nice blur to make it all look good.
ignis
The problem is the UBC satelite If you buy the Dreambox and Buy a ASTRO [ Measat 1/3 @ 91 East] or DSTV [intelsat 7/10 @ 68.5 East] Subscription card the picture is a lot better,
monty
Nothing will help much. A native HD satellite receiver might do a better job upscaling UBC's image before sending it to your TV, although due to the igh compression ratio/low bitrate UBC uses I doubt this! Same story with a Jpeg image, do very high compression generating compression artifacts, and after that it's simply impossible to go back to full quality bitmap. The data simply isn't there anymore! Multichoice uses much less compression, so the source image is of much better quality...
Smile4u
Thank you, guess a low spec tv is the only choise then.
astral
If you buy the Dreambox and Buy a ASTRO [ Measat 1/3 @ 91 East] I am not sure Astro is receiveable beyond the South of Thailand? The programme selection is not much better than UBC, worse in some cases.
