UPDATE:

My wife just told me, it was announced on Thai TV channel 3 news that the police have said the 5 year old child is probably a European or of a race with pale skin.

The boy was shot in his arms, legs, stomach and in the mouth, than cut up and put into 4 black rubbish sacks. The body was taken and dumped.

The police suspect this is a gang killing perpetrated by foreign criminals.

So far no one has reported a child missing. The police are making enquires with Immigration, dentists, International schools and Farang areas.

Foreign gang killings here...Russians?

Know of some white skinned 'criminal elements' from back home that reside here long term but they would never do this kind of things...if this is a gangster-event then it is some truly 'hardcore' individuals that needs to be put down pronto.

I can't see how it helps Thai society in any way to put gruesome photos of the deceased on the front page of the newspapers (Daily News has a pic the kid's head on page 1 today, with the usual cross-hatching). It doesn't send a very good message about the sanctity of life, that's for sure.

So what this vermin is saying; that he shot the child several times and cut him up by accident because he didn’t know what he was doing.

They should send him to Iran, where they practise an eye for an eye.

I’ve afraid no one is exempt from the evils of this world, not even innocent little children.

Very sad indeed.

Man claims he killed in jealous rage

Suspect doesn't know why boy's body parts were found in Taling Chan

The gory murder of a woman and a boy took a new twist yesterday with police first saying that both victims were foreigners and killed over a Bt10-millon debt, and later revealing that a Thai man had confessed last night to killing both in "jealous rage".

The suspect, Siriphong Kanjananiwit, made his first confession in front of a group of reporters from the Thai News Agency (TNA), who were covering the case, by handing them a pistol and claiming he was responsible for the killings. Police later went to the TNA office and escorted Siriphong to the Taling Chan Police Station, in whose jurisdiction the two bodies were found.

The suspect set some conditions for his surrender: he did not want to be handcuffed and that nobody but police officers should accompany him to a flat in Bang Bua Thong area in Nonthaburi. He did not explain the reasons behind his demands.

Metropolitan Police chief Lt-General Worapong Chewpreecha, who also interrogated Siriphong, said the man's claims were not believable and the case would need further investigation.

Earlier yesterday, police said both victims were Koreans who might have been killed by compatriots over a Bt10-million gambling debt. Some news reports claimed that the woman had fled South Korea due to cases of alleged fraud. The woman was identified as a South Korean called Lee Kwang-choo and the boy as Lee Jee-hun.

Citing an informant, police had earlier said the boy - who was shot, decapitated and mutilated - also had a younger brother called David, and both boys studied at an international school in Bang Na.

Quoting Siriphong, police said he had shot the woman, who was later identified as a Thai national named Sunant Srisuwan, in a jealous rage and quoted the suspect as saying: "I did not mean to kill the boy."

Siriphong reportedly said he was in tears while mutilating the boy's body, but did not say where he had discarded the three garbage bags holding the body parts. He also said he did not know why the bags holding the boy's body parts had been found in an abandoned house in Bangkok's Taling Chan area.

Pol Colonel Prayong Lasua said Siriphong later claimed the victims were mother and child, and that Siriphong was dating the woman, who was married to a South Korean man. However, no DNA test results were available to verify this claim. Police had said earlier that it would take five days to carry out tests on both bodies.

Police are also looking into Siriphong's claim that a 13-year-old Thai girl named Pitchaya was also in the taxi with him and the victims and had been injured by gunshots.

In other words, the police made a wild assumption (blaming foreign criminals, gambling debts, etc.), leaked it to the press, and in the end lost major face. Naturally they will find the story unbelievable which is rather frightening as well. Will they really make an impartial investigation at the expense of face, or will the killer walk free in order to save face? What a sick and twisted series of events all the way around.

It is not uncommon in high profile cases like this for someone to come forward and to "confess" to the crime.

I am not one to applaud the BiB, but the statement attributed to Metropolitan Police chief Lt-General Worapong Chewpreecha that "the man's claims were not believable and the case would need further investigation", is commendable and demonstrates professionalism. The confessed killer has merely repeated statements already published, some of which may be inaccurate with the actual facts known only to the police. If the police were interested in a quick solution, they would accept the confession and close the case. However, if the victims are Korean nationals then you be sure that the Korean government will be demanding a thorough investigation and will be watching.

It serves no purpose to readily accept the confession. If the man is guilty he won't be going anywhere anytime soon while the investigation continues. If he is not guilty, that means the seriously disturbed murderer(s) is still out there. There is no benefit to anyone in pinning the murders on a person that while confessing to the crime, did not murder these people. A thorough investigation is needed before justice can be done.

Court issues arrest warrant for murderer who dismembered body of slain boy

BANGKOK, Oct 14 (TNA) – A Bangkok court has issued an arrest warrant for a taxi driver who confessed Tuesday to killing a boy and his mother and dismembered the boy’s body.

The suspect, Siripong Kanchananiwit was charged with premeditated murder, possession of a weapon and hiding a body.

The police will take him to crime spots for re-enactment of the crime Wednesday, beginning at Suvarnabhumi Airport, where he picked up the victims.

Mr Siripong was detained at the Taling Chan police station Tuesday night after he came to Modernine TV late Tuesday to surrender to the police, who initially questioned him there.

The confessed killer said he felt relieved after turning himself in, giving a message to the media for his relatives that they don’t have to visit him and he accepted what he did.

He also told Nong Mint, the 12-year-old daughter of one of his victims, that she should attend to her studies as her mother always hoped.

Nong Mint was grazed by bullets in the incident but she was not seriously injured.

During a search at her place in a building of a housing estate in Bang Bua Thong, where he said he dismembered the body of the boy, the police found three suitcases of the victim, Sunan Srisuwan, a knife, used to chop the body, blood stained shoes, a 600,000 baht cheque of Sunan.

The police found a bullet from a .38 calibre pistol near the building, where Siripong said he washed his taxi after committing the crime.

A garbage collector found decapitated and dismembered body of the boy in black plastic bags at an abandoned housing estate in Taling Chan on Monday. The body of the woman was discovered at a wooded area in Pathum Thani.

According to the suspect’s statement, they were mother and son.

Police forensic technician are conducting DNA tests to verify their identities and relationship. (TNA)

geriatrickid is correct, even if he confesses a real investigation has to be done and he has to convince the court that he is infact guilty.

In my homecountry we have a highly disturbed man that has confessed to over 30 killings, sentenced for most of them, and recently it has been issues coming up that he might have done a few but most likely has gone over the news archives and decided to admit to every killing of similar style in the last 30 years to gain more fame and attention. Including some he cannot possible have carried out.

That kind of justice benefits no-one. And still leaves us unsafe from further incidents.

Edit: news-clip added while writing the post. So, when did he infact pick them up from the airport? During the weekend?
