Hello,

My wife got a tourist visa to the states last year and will try our luck again to get another visa in march(6 months in thailand after usa visit).. do you think she might get a 10 year? or perhaps might not get a visa at all? she came back 5 months later on her 6 month visa last year.. has anyone tried to get a tourist visa the second time to the states?? all the same in regards to paper work..

Thanks

I took my wife on several trips, each time was a 1 year tourist visa. In 2004 when we applied for another visa for her to visit, the agent saw her previous visas, we never stayed in the US more than 4 weeks, and that particular agent granted her a 10 year visa so that we wouldn't have to go through the process every year. So, in speculating on your question, I wouldn't be surprised if you have to go through the process of getting the 1 year visa for a couple more trips before the agent will see a trend and grant a 10 year visa.

My girl not my wife was told on her 2nd interview that the next time she goes (3rd visit) she would be granted a 10 year.

First time my wife applied she was granted a 10 year visa. 2007

Maybe a relevant point:

Thai passports are only valid for 5 years, I believe, so, having got the 10-year visa can this be transferred to a new passport when the old one expires? Maybe just carry old and new passports?

Regulations probably differ between countries - I am specifically interested in the UK as my TW has visited twice before on 6-month visit visas and I want to get her a longer validity visa next time, just to avoid the hassle. Anyone had any relevant experience on this?

Almost all visa given are now 10 year multi entry unless the consulate as some suspicions. Would be very surprised if the when the OP’s wife applies again she is not given a 10 year visa. Would suggest they be sure to include evidence of his ties to Thailand in this application.

Even though Thai passports are for 5 years, the 10 years visa is ok as you just show the old passport on entry. The do not transfer the visas to new one. When renewing the passport they put a statement in the new asking that visas in the old be recognized.
