Hello

I have planned on travelling to Thailand from Febraury 4th to May 4th 2010. I am going to train full time in Muay Thai. I have my hotel, plane and training all already booked. I will be contacting the local Thai consulate within the next week to obtain a visa but completly forgot that they may not issue them to me. ( I know im stupid)

The main reason I forgot though is well, because ive been essentially living on my own and live like an adult. I finished highschool extremely ealry (yes I graduated just had two work harder in less time) and joined the Canadian Forces Reserve Army, as a infantrymen. I am now fully trained and deployable overseas as soon as I turn eighteen. I work full time and part time for the forces and because I live like a bum I have saved up over 10 thousand dollars(Still have 10 thousand left after flights and pre-paid accomadations)

My question is whether I will be able to obtain either a 60 day tourist visa and apply for a 30 day extension once in Thailand or obtain a special request visa.

I do not want any posts commenting that i shouldnt go because im too young and immature, ill get hurt or mugged or I dont know what Im getting myself into. I have done plenty of research.

I have been doing M.M.A since I was twelve years old, have had multiple mixed martial arts, and muay thai fights. More than anything I am trained to kill people and if I wanted to I could be on the next roto to Afghanistan. So please dont embarass yourself by saying things to make it look like im innocent, immature and dont know how to handle myself in a dangerous situations. Or that something bad would happen and I wouldnt know what to do.

Thanks for helping

You certainly can obtain a visa, but call the Thai consulate and ask because it could be that they may require consent from your parents.

You will have no problem. My son has been traveling to Thailand alone to spend the summers with me since he was eleven. Not once has Thai immigration (where you check in off the plane) questioned him. They just stamp his passport and on he goes. They probably assume someone is waiting for him, but they don't know and they don't ask. In other words they don't care.

The airlines are different. They 'required' a sign in/out system by legal guardians up to age 14.. but once they realized he'd made the trip and knew the airports as well as anyone they stopped enforcing this. At 17 there will be absolutely no issues from the airlines. Especially one with an active duty military ID.

Another son.. did the same since 8 to Japan and Korea.. and at 17 was an active duty Marine. No one asked for his mommy or daddy when he boarded a plane in civilian clothes to join his unit in Iraq.. (via Kuwait)..

Just send in your passport to get the 60 day visa and all will be well. If you don't get this visa ahead of time you'll need to leave and re-enter the country after 30 days and if you don't do that by air you'll only get a 15 day extension requiring you to do it again.. so do get that 60 day visa.

In life.. you'll find it's often better to not raise certain questions. You'll put someone on the spot who 'thinks' something should be a certain way but doesn't know.. she'll (it's often a woman..;o) flag it to someone else equally clueless.. and soon you'll find its more trouble than you imagined.. but only because you're asking something they should know.. but don't..

Good luck on your travels to Thailand. Make sure you carry ID with an emergency card and contact information on your person.. and if you can manage it.. health insurance. Canada's social health care system isn't accepted in Thailand AFAIK..

As bkksw said, you will almost certainly have no problems.

With questions like that it is always best to ask at the source. In this case the Thai consulate about visa and the airline about boarding rules.

Just a note about visa: since you travel only in Feb.'10 do not get the visa to early, mid-Jan would be a good time.

A tourist visa will give you a stay of 60 days in Thailand but you will have to enter Thailand within 90 days counting from the date the visa was issued!

Not quite so. If you don't have a valid visa, or a ticket out of Thailand within 30 days of arrival to obtain entry on 'visa exempt' basis, the airline may refuse to let you board. So get a tourist visa. They are currently free.

Who cares if you are trained to kill someone? Training and doing are too completely different matters. I don't know why you think it necessary to add that bit of info in anyways - makes you indeed look immature. :)

Anyways ... Won't have an issue getting a Tourist Visa. Check with airline about traveling internationally as a minor. Different airlines have different policies concerning foreign travel.

Sorry, but I think your above statement was uncalled for and is inappropriate in the context of the OP's question.

Starting to travel by my own at the age of 14 and this until I reached 21 (that was the age for majority, in Belgium, until mid 80's), even regarding the fact that I had my own passport... if I did not show a legal letter signed by my both parents, they would not let me board the plane.

And that time, I was commuting, during every school holidays breaks and long weekends.

Between my boarding school in Switzerland and family home in Belgium!

OK... that was last century... but every time, I am remembering these era: I fell so much more easy to stay in Thailand than leave my own country :)

lazygourmet, I had the same experience on flights between Germany and UK in the late 60's early 70's before I reached the age of 21.

I don't think the OP (Kosan1) will get any recent info from people in his age group here on Thai Visa.

The best way to find out is to call the Thai consulate/embassy regarding visa requirements and call the airline about their policy regarding boarding rules for your age.

Your military background has no influence regarding visa / airline so don't even bother mentioning it.

Good luck

probably a guardian signature will suffice to get past the immigration procedures.

also you might have to make sure you have a student permit of sorts so you can extend your stay legitimally.
