October 17, 200916 yr Im trying to find a contraceptive pill that can also help with oily skin. I tried Yasmin, and it did make my skin feel so great, BUT i ended up in hospital from the worst migraine attack in my life (24 hours of total darkness and still no let up caused my bf to drag me off to emergency, where i was given a lot of pain medication, and 2-3 days later i was able to have a light on again. Couldnt believe it!). Also, i unfortunately had other side effects such as being overly tearful and loss of libido. Shame really, because skin wise it was wonderful, plus my chest felt like i had implants put in.haha! The common alternatives ive seen seem to be Yaz (although yaz seems to be similar to yasmin..?), or, Oilezz. Has anyone tried Yaz or Oilezz? Or, any other ideas about what pill to try? Im also wondering what the ingredient in yasmin is that could have maybe caused such an extreme reaction, so i can be aware of what to look out for. So, any thoughts on that would be great. Thanks so much! edit: title was supposed to say "BCP's"..would appreciate if a mod could amend that. ty. Edited October 17, 200916 yr by eek
October 17, 200916 yr Hi eek, I had crippling migranes about 7 years ago after being on the same pill for years. I also got ridiculously teary and hyper emotional after a giref mixed with implanon implant combo, so had the implanon removed as it turned out the emotional kick from the grief thing messed with my bodies progesterone and I ended up in hormone overload and it was like having an out of body experience as I would cry for hours over the simplest things. I had 2 good years on implanon before then, the only thing that sucked about it before this freakish hormone kick was that I was allergic to local so had it put in by grasping my skirt with the opposite hand I am on Norimin-1, which is actually a Ethinyloestradiol 35ug and Norethisterone 1mg blend. No probs with ragin hormones or oily skin, though never really had issues. Boobs good and thankfully don't feel like any implants stuck in there, but I am no DD, although can be 10D or 12C depending on brand. Do not feel puffy, sick, migraney or burst into tears if I graze a knuckle, so fine by me. I tried to research this all a while back, and if you google the american drugs it is full of horror stories, so I'll stick with the one they gave me in Aus. There was something about the drug in Yaz that made a lot of people sick, so just try different chemicals to what was in that and you will probably be ok. Probably a good idea to have a couple months break if you can to flush your system first or the migranes might come back. Thai visa had a list of chemicals for brands I think, but you can just find a good pharmacist and doctor first to check. Good luck
October 18, 200916 yr Author Thank you redfish. Have actually taken a very long break from the pill already. Was actually so scared after that migraine attack as well as the overly emotional part, that i didnt want to try another pill for a while. So, its been several months now. The problem is i know my body well without the pill. I know when my period is coming because of the changes. I just have a few days a month were i get breast pain and cranky with pms, but apart from that everything is smooth. So, its also scary to go through a lot of hormonal changes when starting on a new pill i dont know well. I used to take Diane 35 for many years, but i am past the recommended allowed time for taking that pill (and anyway, had a few side effects on that pill too, so its no great love lost). I have been reading up a little on yaz and yasmin, and yes, they do seem to have some horror stories attached to them, and many stories about migraines and heightened emotions. What i noticed too is that both seem to have the same amount of Drospirenone (3 mg). I wonder if that is the ingredient that causes problems for some of us? I need to read further though...im sure the answer is somewhere. I will take a look into Norimin-1. Thanks so much for you help
October 19, 200916 yr The trouble with the pill is it is soooo personal. What gives one person great skin will give another person acne. I have seen no pattern. Mocrogynon made me suicidal, but some friends have been on it for years and are really happy with it. I tried another pill (levonelle) 6 months ago as it was a lower dosage pill. It gave me acne and made me put on weight! (just in time for my return to Thailand after a 5 month break from my boyfriend - great). So I am back on my Thailand pill - Marvellon. In the UK I use Brevinor. Neither give me side effects excect bigger boobs (horrah) and a loss of libido (boo). I do get annoyed at the loss of libido, but it took me 4 months to lose my spots and extra weight after my last pill experiment so I am just not willing to do it again, at least for a while. I would say that finding a pill to target a specific problem is quite optimistic. All I hope for in a pill is the least number of side effects and reliable protection. Would love to come of it really, but it is so fail safe and convenient that I am not ready to just yet.
October 19, 200916 yr Author Hmm..i know that feeling mssabai. I think ill try looking into other natural forms of contraception. Quite scared of my body going out of sync. (Why dont men take the pill instead! )
October 19, 200916 yr I was looking at the non-hormonal implant/coil...but the pain factor really put me off. Diaphragms and condoms can be too easily set aside I feel, and rythm method seems waaaaay too risky....oh why can't we just flick off a switch and switch it back on again at the right time????!
October 20, 200916 yr I have always been lucky with the pill. On it for years with no problems whatsoever. I've never had problem periods either so doubly lucky. I have the feeling my good luck will run out and menopause will be horrendous . Anyway, I believe Boo is on the non-hormonal coil and is less than happy with it. Rhythm method is great if you aren't too concerned with getting pregnant but not something I'd reccomend if you are serious about not having children. Have you tried going to one of the big hospitals in Bangkok and seeing a gyno there?
