Has anyone ever experienced problems (extortion, special "fees", discrimination, etc) at the Rawai OrBorTor?

I don't know why the previous poster thinks Thaivisa would feel the need to prematurely close this thread? There are many others 'suggesting' the Royal Thai Police Force are corrupt? I haven't seen tv close any of those threads?

Are the Orborjors (local councils) all over Thailand to be treated any differently? And in answer to the OP's question, yes, I've personally been asked for tea money on at least two occasions.

Yes, and no. I actually found them very good to deal with, even being a foreigner.

The only bit of 'corruption' I had was when I wanted house building plans drafted by their in-house person. Price was 100 bht per sq. m, and I'd get them in one month.

Naturally, I wanted my builder to get on as soon as possible, so I paid 8000 bht in sweeteners and got them in 3 days. Acceptable.

However, there is something going on with certain staff there. After agreeing 100 bht per sq. m., the wife of a friend (no longer a friend, by the way!) rang an official there and asked them to charge me 300 bht per sq. m.! I was even in the office as the call came through! You should have seen the confused look on the officials face as he said he'd already agreed the price.

By the way, last I heard, Chalong OrBorTor only charge 80 bht per sq.m. for building plans. Of course, you can get the plans drawn anywhere, so aren't obliged to use Rawai. You just need them for permissions and engineers report etc.

All well and good to discuss the underhand dealings of departments and divisions of government but the orbortor is an individual person and as such may feel he is been personally slandered and we should therefore be very careful with our accusations.

OK, point taken.

My post meant to refer to certain staff there, in the OrBorTor building in Rawai, not to anyone with such a job title.

I remind posters of Thaivisa rule 6) Not to post comments that could be reasonably construed as defamation or libel.

So far everyone has steered clear of defamatory remarks (well, not too much). Keep it this way and the topic stays open. Thank you.

I don't understand your statement "the OrBorTor is an individual person"... THe OrBorTor is a government entity comprised of individuals, some of which are honest and some of which are not quite as honest. Please clarify.

Oh yes, you are the "paulfromphuket" who posted "5 4 3 2 1 closed topic". What was the objective of your post and what is your agenda here?

not sure whether or not there's corruption, if there is, they surely put it to good use; Rawai and Nai Harn are extremely well maintain, the local OrBorTor is constantly working

even things like potholes get fixed almost instantly

I have great respect for whoever is in charge here - they're doing a great job!

Head Honcho at the OrBorTor is Khun Aroon Solos. I knew him before he became mayor (or whatever) and he is very proactive, and likes to support his "constituents". I've even heard him give proper explanations why things can't be done at a particular time - a refreshing change from the typical shoulder shrug and smile.

perhaps you should take your problem to this individual at the orbartors office, i am sure he will listen to your issues as acording to the above he is the ORBARTOR.

my point is quite simply don't slander indivdual people they might get pi$$ed off.

are you trying to PI$$ me off. I think my commets were quite resonable.

And to khun geeky, the roads around bang tao are so well maintained i would like to by the local orbator a bottle of jonnie black to say thank you for looking after my suspension system.!!!!
