Dad, what does your reply have to do with my above reply?

Uh, possibly I should have said 'facetious' rather than joke. Or did you really think I believe AEON machines are wearing out due to Thaivisa members?

"It's a joke, son" is a comedy from 1947, turned into later phraseology.

Lighten up, sir :D

No problem but since I cannot see you smile as you type your words, adding smileys help us determine if words are met to be serious or lighthearted. :)

I had the same problem on Mon 19th october with AEON atm. No cash dispensed but 10k baht taken from my Uk account. I have emailed my bank and they are investigating. The woman at Aeon could do nothing because my card was foreign but said that this had happened to a lot of people.

Made 100s of withdrawals and this is the first problem I have had.

This is my banks reply

Thank you for your message.

I confirm your disputed ATM withdrawal claim has been forwarded to the appropriate department for investigation. Please note the following processing time scales for claims:

1. Non-dispense claim at a Nationwide cash machine:

Transaction claims on a Nationwide cash machine will be dealt with by our ATM Claims Department within 48 hours of receipt. However if the transaction is showing with no associated faults, this may take us a little longer to investigate. In such cases we have to request a detailed transaction list from the branch to confirm that it was a good dispense.

2. Non-dispense claim from a non Nationwide cash machine:

Transaction claims on a non-Nationwide machine need to be forwarded onto the ATM owner; this will be completed by our ATM Claims Department. The ATM owner will have 10 working days to deal with the claim from the date they receive it.

3. Claim for an unrecognised cash machine withdrawal:

Claims for unrecognised cash machine withdrawals will need to be investigated by our Special Investigations Department who aim to refund all fraudulent transactions within 5 to 10 days from the date of receipt. They may contact you directly if more information is required.

4. Claims done for cash machines abroad:

Due to the complexity of overseas ATM claims, we are unable to provide an accurate timescale. We will of course process these claims as quickly as possible.

One of my ex girlfriends was a Bank employee in charge of cash machines in the UK. It does not matter what happens with the ATM machines, Wether it pays out too much or to little or none , It can be traced , because the machine will record the cash card details regardless, if you try to withdraw 1000 baht or pound if you are in there UK , and it gives you 2000 baht or pound , it has your bank card details, and it can be rectified , I think that the manager of these Thai Banks are on a good thing , because at the end of the day all trans actions can be counted up and matched against what the machine has paid out , so if it has paid out 10,000baht or pounds the remaining money that has been loaded into the machine will not tally , it will be up or down , then it can be traced back to the card, because as i have said it has the cards details and transaction number in the machine.all the people that think they can get away with these machines that pay to much out as we see in the papers occasionally are legally bound to pay it back, And again the Bank has all the information ,

If they have such precise procedure in Thailand, then why isn't a phone call alerting them of the malfunction sufficient enough for Aeon to do the investigation and credit me back the money within a number of days? I also insisted for several minutes to get some type of reference number as proof of my conversation from the 2 Aeon phone reps I spoke to, but neither gave me one. Their continuous return comment was to call my bank. My bank hasn't made it easier either as I had to mail in a form describing the dispute. Well at least they were able to email the "doc" form and I was able to fill it in on PC. Although, they allowed me to fax in the form, I still needed to mail in the original signed form as well.

It seems to me that it's more likely that either not enough money or no money will be dispensed from the machine than the opposite.

As far as I am concerned as part of the Visa network then these institutions should have to conform to certain standards, procedural and customer service wise.

I have had this happen before with Bangkok bank where the machine ran out of 1000s but the money was returned automatically a day later.

I will not allow this to turn into a lets blame the other bank situation. Its up to my bank to show me taking the cash or otherwise give me the money. I will be withdrawing money over the counter until this is resolved in my favour. Yes machines go wrong but no way should an institution be able to withdraw money from an account without giving you money.

Did your error happen on the Mon 19th as well vagabond ?
