Polka Dots....

Featured Replies

without realising it Ive accumulated a number of polka dots dresses :D mostly in combinations of black and white

was going through my closet for something for my cousin, and this is what I found...so far :D

so whats your unconscious favourite? mine, apparently, turns out to be polka dots :)

(I could add also black and whites, or white and blacks - as in combination in the dress, not as separate pieces - and this thread will be filled for pages :D --- ok a bit of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean...)

I'm not keen on polka dots, although i like the last dress in your collection. Stripes are my favourite, preferably black and white. As for how many, you can never have too many. When my wife gets ready to go out, I enjoy wondering what she will chose to wear.

Ooh i like your dresses miggy.

For me seems to be a pattern of similar styles. But i seem to have a lot of white and cream tops. I love white tops. Varying in length and detail etc. I guess white would be the reoccuring element. :)

I recd a fabulous black dress with little tiny polka dots as a birthday present, my husband turned his nose up at it, "can't wear that anywhere but a funeral" :D

I don't actually own any polka dotted stuff now (returned it, he was right, rural people are very funny about wearing black to a weddding). A fair number of stripes tho. Had to restrain myself from buying too many stripey shirts. :)

I didnt realise I like polka dots too :) kinda just happened

speaking of stripes, black and white, my fav dress is in that combination. will take a pic to share, so Nidge can give his approval

mean time, here is also a similar combination. not sure why i bought it, never wore it, isnt me at all. have now given it away. lets see what Nidge thinks of this one, given it falls within his fav.....

(ok so its not quite stripy.....more like checquered)

Thanks MiG16 for posting dresses for my approval. Not quite what i expected to read when I opened this thread this morning!

The checkered dress is nice, but not something I would normally chose.

The dress you posted the link to is very nice. Wife likes it too. I don't normally like up and down strips but it looks good here. I imagine it's very slimming too. Can it be bought in Thailand?

Judging from the shape, size and style of those dresses I think I'd rather see you IN them. :)

They all look nice to me. I've seen a gal with a lovely figure wear a form fitting dress with BIG, black polka dots on a white back ground and she looked smashing. Sorry, I don't have a photo, but I should have taken one.

I have no idea Nidge. I just googled to find if there is anything similar to my white and black stripes dress. the suggestion for you and wife was also a lil tongue in cheek - as it reminded me of a dress SJP (Carrie Bradshaw from SATC) wore when she was nursing her man :)

it was an over the top cutesy stripy apron style dress with the little maid's hat :D

  • Author

during that same google for my stripy dress, I came across a few other interesting ones.

in order of my opinion:

1. very very cute, but I wouldnt wear it

2. not the most flattering pattern of stripes (horizontal), but I loveeeeeeeee this one

3. can see myself in this one, but still not quite the one I have (I guess Ill just have to take a pic)

and Ian - please dont be misguided :) keep in mind that a lot of these dresses I decided to give away. there must be a reason why I give them away :D

I just remembered, I have to go to a reunion cocktail this evening. its semi formal

so since this thread is up, and Ive got dresses shown here, might as well make it useful :D

so suggestions as to what might be appropriate? I even brought out my fav dress from storage ......... take a guess as to which one it is

and ofcourse my collection is not complete without a couple of them. take a guess as to which those are too :)

I like 1 - if you have the legs to wear it, it'll look fab! It's got that whole 80's vibe going on which is so popular right now. or 5 is nice for more traditional dressy occassion.

I would actually say the thing that jumps out at me more than polka dots is your love of blacks, greys and whites (apart from the football tops of course!)

My unconscious (or very conscious) favourite is stripes...mostly black and white or blue and white. I have to date - 2 bikinis, 5 tops, 1 jumper and 3 dresses (and I do not have a big wardrobe at all...being a lady with her feet on two continents, I have become very good at editing my wardrobe!)

MiG, I think you should wear this one.

1) very sexy, (without the hat). Could easily see mrs nidge in that one.

2) Nice but does not suit the model, i think her skin is the wrong tone, or maybe she needs to be more "curvy"/

3) Sorry, but this one is awful. Mrs nidge would be sent back upstairs to get changed. Looks "grannyfied"

MiG

Would agree with Nidge's first choice of dress, tho I'm sure it would look much better on you than him. The 1st pic Mssabai mentioned would suit you as second - but perhaps a little more risque and less cocktail event. It could make quite a few guys at a reunion realise what they've missed out on though, should you wish to do so :)

BTW Look forward to seeing you in an itsy witsy teeny weeny polka dot bikini when you're next back in town for a Bangkok Football night out. Just don't ask Mr.Toad to wear a matching outfit...

You have only ever seen me in jeans, perhaps you'd be surprised how good i look in a dress :D

  • Author

haha fletch - me in a teeny weeny bikini? LOL that would be THE talk of town, front news material eh?

i think this is the first time I see you post on the ladies forum, and i feel very privileged you choose to do so in reply to my topic :D

I had to include the footie jersies in case my footie friends peeked in and wondered what had become of MiGgy with all these crazy dresses!

coincidentally - I did wear the dress shown in Nidge's suggestion without checking this thread before I went out :D

mssabai - the first dress is kinda cool, only problem is once i put it in the wash, the belt bit has gone all weird. grrrrrr

fletch - they were mostly oldies in suits at the reunion. nice and interesting people, but glad i didnt go a bit risque with my outfit (as mssabai's suggestion would have been) less than 10% women by my estimate. and even amongst the women, only a couple other apart from me that had any colour apart from black grey and dark blue on them. i looked around the room and wondered how i became a part of this :D

and Nidge - you cant borrow any of mine :)

That's ok Mig, i'd hazard a guess that my bum's bigger than yours anyway :)

Sure you would have looked great in that. Bit surprised you're back so early though :D

True I've only every seen you in jeans in person, and I think we'd both pray it stays that way...

As for the photos Mrs Nidge has been circulating of you in female clothing - that's a whole different matter... :)

I was wanting to propose something for Eek too, but dont have anything in my own collection for her, so I called my trusted friend google, and asked for something nice for a tall slim young brunette (thats the image I have in my head of Eek)

have to say I wasnt impressed with their suggestions. but some tolerable ones are below. lemme know if I come even close to what you might consider wearing Eek? the red and black that is.....

LOL I know what u will say to the black one :D but blame google. be thankful i didnt post some other ones they proposed :)

(well actually, I might as well, just so you get some idea what I mean....its the grey ones that I consider the ' no no's

Thanks MiG, you just brightened up my evening with the red dress. Wow! Not keen on the black one, but i imagine almost any girl could look nice in the grey one.

Aww thanks miggy! Actually i really love your blue and white dress! Thats gorgeous.

The pics below i did for your other thread a while back, but then i..um..i duno..chickened out i guess. :D

The red dress i can wear as a skirt or dress ^^ but my absolute fav is white tops. I love the white on you see at the end, goes with so many things. Just wish i had sleeker legs though as those years of running and weight training didnt do me any favors in the slim leg department. Now my style is in a flummox because my hair is shorter (shoulder length now). Nothing seems to feel "right"! :)

edit: i also agree about dress number 5 for the party! :D

I like number 2 from your collection Eek

the white top looks good on you, but just isnt a style I would wear.

and I dont know what you are talking about, not slim legs? err??? I dont wanna turn this thread into a mushy corny 'ohhh you look so good and lovely and sexy' type thread, (Im not one to give random compliments just for the sake of it), but I really dont see where the problem with your legs are?

ohhh and shoulder length hair is not that hard to match to your dress style. I once had a boyish cut and felt like I needed a whole new wardrobe to match my hair :) now THAT was expensive! not to mention the need to go for haircuts every 2 weeks!

and are you saying u dont like the red dress I propose for you? :D Nidge loves it :D

but then again, Nidge at times has some weird tastes :D he also liked the grey dresses that I see as no no for grown girls.

PS> I think I need to learn your photo collating/editing skills. its great!

so suggestions as to what might be appropriate?

I think this dress suits you best, however you will light up a room whatever you wear

ahhhh Jude my darling...... :) I miss ya so so much. Ill buy a new dress for when we meet :D

speaking of lighting up a room, now Im thinking I shoulda worn my brightest yellow dress cos that room certainly needed some more lights with all the dark suits in there :D
