I am looking for someone to finish building a house. We live in Ubon and the house is around 10 kilometers outside of the city. The walls, roof, and such are done. I need someone that can finish the electrical, the tile, plumbing, finish installing windows and such.

If you want agood farang builder, then alan thebuilder is your man. If you want a Thai builder, then you need along list of builders to put right the previous ones cock-ups. It sounds very much like Tim has already encountered this type of problem and wants error put right.

The Thai guy (small company typically building 2 to 3 house or small commercial properties) who built our house near Kantaralak (85k from Ubon) was pretty reliable at most things. He is based in Kantaralak but works in Ubon too. You would need to speak Thai or use your wife!

I have no idea of the quality Alan's work - He might be a super builder. But you write that neither of you work for him. Is that absolutely true? The Farang Connection is a sponsor of this forum and Alan has an advertisement on the Farang Connection homepage. So to me it seems there is some connection.

Alan might be good, but as mentioned above also not cheap. And it is possible to get good quality work cheaper from local builders. My best advice will always be to inspect some of the builders former work to check quality. Then you can agree on the quality level and later compare when finished.

Tim, I can put a crew in there to do it all with supervison, but can't do till rice cutting over in a month to five weeks. My guys two guys have experience building my house, near comlpetion, and others prior. I can give you a total bid for it all, if you send some plans, specs, and go from there. They would stay on site, come home om week ends to Sakon. If interested, i will send you some pics of my place.

I would not dispute anything you have said, it is true. A the B has a large company with 2 complete teams working around Isaan and Chonburi area (including during this rice cutting period).

Martin and I know and like the guy. He advertises extensively in many forums and papers throughout Thailand, I see that as proffessionalism not deviousness.

Without making this sound like an Ad or a A the B fanclub, you pay for what you get and sometimes errors knock budgets skyhigh when the .

I should know, that was my job to sort them out in the UK as a Project Manager for a High St Bank.

I am a registerd builder here in N.Z----question----can I get a work permit to do same in Thailand ?? - I thought that would be one of the " not needed here " answers ??? would be taking away Thai jobs.---or is it something to do with providing the cash and employing Thai labour ?

Unfortunately, I do not have plans to send you. It is a project that was started by someone else before I came along. I am faced witha half finished house that I would like to finish. I am trying to avoid the old I have relatives that can do it for you thing. I can wait until after rice harvest no problem. If you are local to Ubon, I can take you out to the place and let you look.

I give all advertising space free for friends. If I do not know them, then it costs 500 baht for life.

Get a quote from YANVIT HOUSE AND LAND. They have office etc. in main street of Ubon opposite Robinsons / Pizza Boys. See the owner name SUPORN,(he speaks reasonable English). All thier work is to a written contract, enginingering plans and timetable. He built my place at Khemarat some years ago. Good standard for me. His firm has built some hundreds of houses in the Ubon area. Always good to have more than one quote.

good morning all, ive put this reply on a couple of threds now, i see it banded around get a falange builder, yes sounds good, if they were going to do the work, but alas they dont, they get the same thai builders to do the work as you could get, then charge you the earth, dont be taken in, get you own crew, and supervise them, and supervise them well, buy all your own stuff, blocks ect,becouse no matter who you get if you let them do the ordering, not only will you not get what you want, they will also add on the the price a persentage, like one off the other posters says, he could get a crew and supervise, that sounds good to me, you have to supervise,the only thing is does he have any idea of the building game?,its sticky ground, but i would get your own lads in and supervise them, or like the poster said let him do it, i wouldnt pay a farange builder over the top just so he can get the same men you could of got,, thats my rant over, merry christmass and new year to you all,, ron
