Thai University Holidays

Featured Replies

University Holidays seem to have been on for the last month, similar to school holidays, I have been told they then have a 4 month break in April, May, June & July. I find that to be huge.

Anyone familiar care to confirm this please?

You've been told wrong.

I've taught in Thai universities and colleges for 7 years, and here's the schedule at the government university where I currently work:

All government holidays off (check the Thai Visa holiday calendar--pinned on TV).

Break between Semester's 1 and 2: 1 week (October 19-26)

Break between Semester's 2 and 3: 1 week (March 7-14)

That's it. Four month break? Dream on...

Most university contracts are for one year, and usually you'll be required to work the summer semester (March 16 - May 30) either teaching classes, teaching seminars, teacher training, writing or research. If your contract is less than a year, giving you the summer semester off, then you have about a 10-week unpaid break.

Rajabhat universities are a bit different. My wife is currently on holiday, they got off on the 5th of October and start again on the 9th of November. For April-May, she gets nearly 2 months off.

About 2 months during that time frame for Chiang Mai university also. Summer break.

When I worked for a Govt. Uni it was 3 months a year off.
