Pit Viper Rescue!

Featured Replies

We have a small yard outside our kitchen which is filled with plants & vines and it is perfect for snakes to coil up waiting to ambush, however, this space is used by us & we are worried about getting nipped by one of these snakes - most of which are pit vipers :)

My partner has no reservations about whacking these snakes but I have a problem with that! I would like to know if there is somewhere in Bangkok where I can take these pit vipers, does anybody have any info?

Thanks in advance

We are in Bangkok Noi, just south of Pinklao, the snakes are these: Trimeresurus albolabris and Trimeresurus macrops

The only 2 effective ways to discourage the slinky visitors are;

1. Get rid of their food source. If snakes are there, it's because there is something to eat, like rodents and other reptiles. If those rodents and reptiles are eating fruit or garbage, deal with that. No food, will force the snakes to leave.

2. Get rid of the hiding places, I'm talking about logs, big rocks, pices of wood, overhangs where the smakes go to rest and hide.

Thanks for your suggestions, we haven't had a snake in a while but one will come along soon I'm sure, however, we have a little garden out the back and there's no way we can get rid of that(not if my partner has anything to do with it anyway) so I'm really looking for a less natural method :)

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but how does one tell the difference between a pit viper and a tree snake?

Pit vipers have thin bodies but very wide jaws and pits(look like nostrils) just below, and forward of their eyes, the yellow bulging eyes and the red tail usually give it away too :D

Forgot to mention, tree snakes heads are more in proportion to their bodies and usually have black patterns on their back, and are normally more ready to run than fight, unlike pit vipers who relish standing their ground and lashing out at broom sticks and bamboo poles :)
