I may be relocating to Thailand quite soon. The thing is I have 300GB of great stuff on my external hard drive. I live in Japan so of course it's a Japanese model. A lot of it is legal downloads of tv. I really hope the drive will plug in and work in Thailand. All things electrical confuse me to buggery so I hope someone out there can tell me that they have done it and everything works fine.

The computers across the world all have a univeral spec and if it has a USB or whatever port, then your drive - or any other removable drive will work just as well here as one in the outer Hebrides.

yes, but what about the electrical supply. It is the external hard drive that I want to hook up to a pc.

If your drive has an external power supply, look on the rating plate. If it says '100-240V 50-60Hz' or something similar then it has a universal power supply and will work just fine. If it says '100-120V' then you'll need a transformer, if it says '210-240V' then again it will be just fine.

The same goes for your PC and any other electrical devices you wish to bring.

Voltage difference aside, Japanese appliances can be plugged to receptacles in Thailand but not always the other way around.
