Take A Break Fellas! (contd)

Recommended Posts

Level 3 has several questions rather than just one.

1. A car is moving north at 50 m.p.h. on a level, paved road. In which direction is the friction?

2. Which word in the English language can be formed from the letters

Y T C E H S ..... ?

3. "The superabundance of talent skilled in the preparation of gastronomic concoctions will impair the quality of a certain potable solution made by immersing a galinaceous bird in ebullient Adams Ale"

What does it mean?

4. A man travels to work on a circular railway. His office is situated diametrically opposite his home. In one direction, from his home to his office, it takes 1 hour & 20 minutes -- in the other direction however, it takes only 80 minutes. Why?

5. Study this paragraph and all things in it. What is vitally wrong with it? Actually, nothing in it is wrong, but you must admit that it is most unusual. Don't just zip through it quickly, but study it scrupulously. With luck you should spot what is so particular about it and all words found in it. Can you say what it is? Tax your brains and try again. Don't miss a word or a symbol. It isn't all that difficult?

6. What 13-letter word means "having or showing keen understanding?"

Level 3 has several questions rather than just one.

1.  A car is moving north at 50 m.p.h. on a level, paved road.  In which direction is the friction?

For the car to move north, the part of the wheels which touches the road moves south. Therefor the friction's direction is north.

60 + 20 = 80

I thank you from the bottom of my heart and also my wife's bottom!" :o:D

Here are the answers, amigos:

1. A car is moving north at 50 m.p.h. on a level, paved road. In which direction is the friction?

North; i.e. the same direction as the car. Why? Neglecting air friction, the point of contact of the wheels with the road determines the direction of the friction, which as per its definition has to be opposite to the motive force.

'G' got it right!

2. Which word in the English language can be formed from the letters

Y T C E H S ..... ?

Answer: Scythe ...... Chesty is not a legitimate word. It is slang --disagreements?

3. "The superabundance of talent skilled in the preparation of gastronomic concoctions will impair the quality of a certain potable solution made by immersing a galinaceous bird in ebullient Adams Ale"

What does it mean?

Too many cooks spoil the broth (soup)!

4. A man travels to work on a circular railway. His office is situated diametrically opposite his home. In one direction, from his home to his office, it takes 1 hour & 20 minutes -- in the other direction however, it takes only 80 minutes. Why?

1 hr. 20 min. = 80 min.

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

chesty

Pronunciation: 'ches-tE

Function: adjective

Inflected Form(s): chest·i·er; -est

1 : proudly or arrogantly self-assertive

2 : marked by a large or well-developed chest

Kind of a weak definition. Seems slang to me.
