Suspicious box turns to be bomb hoax

BANGKOK: -- A suspicious box was found inside a renowned department store in Bangkok yesterday evening, causing a panic among staff and visitors to the department store.

The incident later turned to be a bomb hoax.

The suspicious paper box was put near an escalator on the second floor of the Central Lad Phrao Department Store

However, local police and explosive experts who rushed to the scene upon being reported by the shopping centre's staff found only three bottles of water and a newspaper inside the box.

The incident did cause a panic among the department store's staff and visitors, who left the area when the local police and bomb experts arrived.

Anyone else notice a lot of the bins in public places have been removed in the past 24hr hours?

Probably a good precaution - I remember the UK govt doing the same thing after the IRA bombed a train station

Now, all they need to do is to wake up those guys manning the x-ray machines at Don Muang check-in area.

How about x-raying the unchecked baggage BEFORE you enter the departure area?

This has been a major loophole in Bangkok airport security for years, and has

been pointed out in the press on several occasions but no action has been taken.

It is time to move the x-ray machines from the gate area to the Immigration points!!

Moving the x-ray machines to just beyond the immigration points would be good, but if wont be effective unless the persons manning them are awake.

By the way, did you notice that the security at the check-in counters is outsourced from a private firm? :o
