Can A Thai Embassy Abroad Transfer Extension Of Stay Stamp/re-entry Permit To New Passport?

I'm on extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai. My passport is valid until 2014 but no more visa/stamp page left, not even have room for a re-entry permit stamp. My embassy (Hungarian) won't add additional pages to the passport. Here at the Bangkok Embassy they can only issue a 1 yr temporary passport, because the new 5-10 year passport is the new EU biometric passport with fingerprints and for that I have to fly back to Hungary.

Is this plan feasible?

I get a 1 yr temporary passport at the Hungarian Bangkok embassy. I ask them to issue a letter for immigration to transfer my extension of stay to the 1 year passport. At Chaeng Wattana I transfer the extension of stay stamp and get a multiple re-entry permit. I fly to Hungary and get the new 10 year EU passport. Then I visit the Thai Embassy in Budapest to transfer the extension of stay stamp and multiple re-entry permit. I return to Thailand with new passport and extension of stay stamp.

Additional work permit question: I'm leaving my current company mid December in Samut Prakan. Do I only need a letter from my company for the labor office indicating my last day of work? Do I have to return the work permit? Is there any fine not returning the workpermit or not submitting the letter. My extension of stay is based on marriage but I used the tax payment options for extension, not the money in the bank. My extension of stay is still valid after I resign, correct? I have another job from January in Chiang Mai. Can I start applying for new work permit, while I have the other one in Samut Prakan.

Extension of stay stamp can not be transferred by anyone but Immigration - you will have to arrive showing both passports.

You extension of stay. Don't know what you may need for labor office. I believe there is a problem making application for work permits while others are still outstanding (that is how they find out old ones have not been returned). But it may not be an issue if still actively employed. Hopefully someone can clarify.

Thanks Lopburi.

Will the airline in Hungary let me board with essentially one way ticket and with one new passport without any extension of stay stamp and re-entry permit and with an invalidated old passport with everything? Will Thai immigration do this transfer at Suvarnabhumi after I arrived?

I left my old job in October 2008 and did not return my work permit in Bangkok. In 2009 February I got a new work permit. On the workpermit application, I had to list if I had previous work permits. I'm still employed now until mid-Dec. Then I was planning to get my new passport in Hungary, return DEC 30 and start working in Chiang Mai in January

Before it was requirement to return work permits, but lately reports say you can keep it and no more fines not returning it. Since my extenion of stay is based on marriage, my immigration status will not change if I resign (no overstay until extension of stay expire)

There are also reports that it must be returned so the air is not clear on that - in most cases they still seem to have to be returned to obtain a new one.

Just show both to airline to prove you have authority to enter. You can not use old passport for travel but any valid stamps are still valid even when passport is not.
