MiG,

I'm not sure of the exact forum layout, it seems that the meet is arranged through the Thai Embassy here in Doha. There might be restrictions on what we can ask but I feel that it will be more informal than formal.

I'll let you know how it goes and if there is anything worth sharing.

<snip>

Also who is his boss?

Yes, good question...

Adding to the above, which is on most people's minds - locally and internationally

is the question of how does he expect to bring about reconciliatory gestures from the 2 opposing sides in Thailand, given that his foreign minister is seen as being more than biased towards PAD.

or the infamous words of Sondhi L how the Democrats and the PAD are 'on the same team'

I would also be very interested to hear his views on what he thinks is a 'reasonable time needed by the Democrat party to prepare for an election campaign' and why he thinks whats stipulated in the election law is not enough reasonable time (alright, maybe you can only ask the first but not the second part of this question.....)

would be interesting to see the script of the interview.....I assume you will be doing an interview for some sort of publication?

cheers for that, but to be honest, I dont expect to hear any concrete answer.

politicians are generally good at that, but personally I feel that Khun Mark has followed in the footsteps of Khun Chuan EXTREMELY well in this aspect of evasive nothingness .....

I would honestly want to know why someone with his education and background is wasting his time as pm here, there isnt much money in it for him (not after everyone else gets their cut) and he has no power to change things (good way to be shown the door). Money and power are the only two things that make being a politician attractive and he has neither. Oh and please save the he is thai story for another thread.

Bit of a wasted afternoon all he did was speak about the financial gains for Qatar investing in Thailand and how the two countries intend to develop and improve existing relations.

One question I wanted to ask was the relationship between Cambodia and Thailand luckily someone did ask this question and received a well rehearsed answer without mentioning Mr. Takki.

Overall it was very disappointing but we did get a very good meal out of it.

The answers are self-evident to anyone who knows a bit of contemporary Thai history. First, although the PAD and the Demos share a few common goals, they are not on the same 'team.' Anyone who was present at the three-way FCCT forum last year where Demo spokesperson Korn , a PAD leader, and a disqualified PPP candiate debated Thailand's immediate future would know that, for example. Just because the Demos may (and you can argue otherwise) have benefitted from PAD actions does not mean they are on the same page. The antics of the YIP or the SDS during the early 70s in the USA helped unseat Richard Nixon and bring the American Democratic Party back into power but that never meant that the Demos were on the same 'team' as the YIP or SDS.

On the second point, the Demos can either finish the current term as allowed by the Constitution, at which point elections will be held according to constitutional protocol, or they will call them early in which case a house dissolution will be necessary. One could demand the same of any incumbent administration you don't yourself approve of: let's have elections now. In light of the way things are going thus far I think it's a rather absurd question to ask as this is the first stretch of stability we've seen in several years.

Seriously I did think about the Newcastle link, seems I'm from the Boro (dont tell anyone) but thught better of it as he might ridicule me.

Come on any questions that will put him on the spot...

Skybluestu I'll ask him about your Facebook request.

There's nowt wrong with being a "Smoggie". God's chosen people. :)

I'd ask Mr Abhisit to sort out the Thai education system. All children, regardless of race or creed, deserve the best possible education...even Geordies and Mackems. :D

Well I'd start by asking him why the Thai Government are making it so difficult for (semi) retired westerners to live here. The finances they bring with them are huge!!!!

Again, this is a trend put in place by Thaksin/TRT/Purachai (who refused to sign off on a single permanent residence application while he was in office).

But to be fair, the difficulties in staying here legally apply to all nationalities, not just westerners.
