Khun Samak throughout his term in office as PM certainly kept politics alive and thriving. His lively and some time irreverent comments invariably kept people riveted to his speach's and often wondering what he would say next to liven up an otherwise dull subject. Not quite my type of character, although I did have a grudging admiration for his free spirit and determination to say what he felt, come what may. RIP.

A great contributor to Thailand Politics, was probably a victim of the times but very charismatic man. RIP, you certainly did your bit for your country.

He may have had a terrible last act as a politician, but at least he got out there, which is more than most people can say.

Sunday mornings were never the same following him stepping down as PM. His ramblings in his weekly fireside chat were at the very least, always entertaining, and I am sure they have privided years of text and transcript for code breakers and Thai linguist specialists to decipher what he was on about. God knows most people who listened didn't have a clue

He was a color full person and I really liked him. He opened his mouth against the press who bothered him and I feel so sorry that his last days were like they were. This man should be honored and not damned. He did a lot for the country in the short time of being MP and also as

governor of Bangkok. I really hope that his death will not be misused for political fights.

He Tried to do many good things for this country after it fell into a terrible situation... It is sad that his career was short...as he seemed to be on the side of the people.

Samak Sundaravej (June 13, 1935 - November 24, 2009) (Thai: สมัคร สุนทรเวช; RTGS: Samak Sunthorawet).

He was the Prime Minister of Thailand and Minister of Defense in 2008, as well as the leader of the People's Power Party in 2008. Sundaravej is Chinese.

Early life and family

Samak was born in Bangkok, Thailand to Sewok Eak Phraya Bumrungrajabhariphan (Samien Sundaravej) and his wife Khunying Umphan Bumrungrajabhariphan (Umphan Sundaravej). He is of Chinese descent (ancestral surname Lee (李)).[1] He has five siblings. Samak studied at Saint Gabriel's College, Assumption Commercial College and Thammasat University. He also received diplomas from Chulalongkorn University and Bryant & Stratton College.[2]

As well as being a politician, Samak is a well-known television chef. For seven years until the military coup of September 2006, he hosted a cooking show called Tasting, Ranting on the Thailand ITV television network and Royal Thai Army Radio and Television. He said that once he became prime minister, he would also resume his career as a TV chef and has done so. On September 9, 2008, the full bench of the Constitutional Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for Samak to maintain his television career, and disqualified him from office. .[3][4]

Samak is married to Khunying Surat Sundaravej, a financial adviser to the Charoen Pokphand Group. They have 2 children.

BANGKOK: -- The Senate Tuesday observed a minute of silence to honour late former prime minister Samak Sundaravej.

Senate Speaker Prasopsuk Bundej informed the chamber before its weekly meeting of Samak's death and told senators to stand up and observe a minute of silence.

He certainly was a colourful chap, with a remarkable memory for cooking and poetry.

His presence on the cooking circuit will be sorely missed, and hopefully we all can learn that life is short, so instead of focusing on the mundane and less pleasant aspects of life, it is always important to have balance and find time for the things we love - be they cooking shows, music, movies, sport, meditation, poetry or skiing - lest we get to the end and realise that instead of enjoying life we spent our whole time working and missing out on 'smelling the roses'.

RIP Samak - you certainly found plenty of time to 'smell the roses' when you were BMA governor and again when you were PM. A character indeed.

While I was not a fan in the political arena,

still I also love cooking, and on that ground we could have been friends.

Pig's leg in Coca Cola was certainly and original classic.

I hope he has all the Coke he need in the great beyond, or where ever he is cooking now.

No one can say he wasn't a very interesting character.
