7 districts in Mae Hon Son declared cold-spell disaster zones

Mae Hon Son - The provincial administration in this northern province Sunday declared all of its seven districts disasters zones under the cold spell.

Thirayuth Chandiswong, chief of the Mae Hong Song Civil Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, said the declaration of the disaster zones allowed the provincial administration to use an urgent fund of Bt1 million from the Interior Ministry to buy winter clothing for some 138,200 people affected by the cold spell.

Well if you were a cynical person, which I am not of course, you might imagine that the provincial centres declare this disaster every year off their own bat to get their hands on the relief money for well planned dispersal. Interesting too of course is that they have identified exactly 138,200 people as being affected.

Correct, but if you've ever been to the north of Thailand during "winter" you'll know just what a pathetic bunch of wimps these people are. The Thais make perfect victims with their ability to look sadder than sad at the drop of a hat and turn on the tears quicker than any crocodile.

Is this the first time in living memory that it's got a little cool in the north this time of year?
