Most countries have a consulate or an embassy, and if not, usually a 'friendly' embassy is appointed to handle these problems. Contact them and have them solve it. You are not allowed to stay in Thailand without a valid passport on you.

Short answer. No. As noted some countries i.e. US, allow the addition of pages, others such as the UK do not. If you only have '1 page' then Cambodia would present a problem [1 page for visa] and little space for the accompanying entry and exit stamps apparently.

You need to apply at your Embassy in Thailand for a new passport, which takes on average 2/3 weeks depending on country, or if you are able additional pages [ same day] .

Why not just apply for a new passport in your Embassy. There should be no need to send a passport overseas.

I have a UK passport and have renewed it 6 times from the British Embassy in Singapore, Thailand, UAE and Libya and always found them to be very quick.

Is there something I am missing?

You are thinking of posting your passport to Cambodia, presumably to your embassy to get a new one, and then going there and picking it up? How, without a passport, are you going to travel to Cambodia?

And how do you save in air tickets? You still have to go there.

I don't know about your embassy but the British embassy has issued my last two passports within something like seven working days.

I have been on tourist visa for 7 years with no issues.

Or is this the real issue, visa overstay? :)

Sending your passport out of the country is illegal. If intercepted, you could face serious trouble.

If your country doesn't have a representative who can issue a new passport, go to a neighbouring country where there is an embassy or consulate which can.

"Sending your passport out of the country is illegal."

I don't think so. It's only illegal to send it out to get a visa for Thailand. That assumes you are in Thailand at the time.

Irrespective of your own country's regulations you should carry your passport with you at all times in Thailand. A copy is said by some to be acceptable but, if that's the case, you can be sure it would only serve as a temporary fix and if the police/immigration required to see it they'd want the original. Therefore that makes it illegal to send it out of the country.

If the OP would only mention what his nationality was, correct advice would be forthcoming.

Posting it to Cambodia, and collecting it from there??? :)

You seem to have extraordinary good luck, but I fear it may run out soon. Be careful!!

.......and a previous post from the OP...

am a little confused regarding extension on a multiple non O visa, can I apply for a 1 year extension here if so what is the criteria - I have had 3 years of (1) yr Multiple Non O from my home consulate - and wasn't aware of applying here - my Visa is based on Age and Bank funds. Oh and importantly all Visa's are stamped "extension of stay not permitted' ???

What exactly is he on about? Seems to be at odds with himself. :)

The illegal part is not sending it out of the country, but possibly the part about not carrying it with you while on foreign soil.

"Posting it to Cambodia, and collecting it from there???"

I believe what the OP said was that he wanted to post it and collect it from there. Actually, if you forget about the part where he isn't carrying a passport, doing what he is asking about is not illegal.

1) I do confirm that it legal to send one's passport out of the country: the content is checkd by immigration way in and way out in both countries and no issues there

2) I do confirm that, even though a consulate in the country of origin might issue a visa for Thailand (Tourist etc..) this one would be void as the person has to be outside of the Kingdom to obtain such a visa (one might get off with a simple cancellation and a simple non-written warning but that is left to the discretion of the immigration officer at the border)

3) It is regulation that Embassies do not issue passport to non resident (as in the National who have registered as resident in Thailand different from the Thai regulations). Tourists have to have a six month validity passport and will not have a new one; if lost or stolen a pass will be delivered in order to allow the person to leave the country and get back to theirs

4) I do not see how one can obtain a passport without being physically present (as they are supposed to be biometric passports at the least)?

5) As you may have noticed the OP doesn't support any questions with correct explanations

Well, by reading the post again it seems to me that the OP wants to do it from Cambodia but it still does not explain how he could get a new passport without being there

What country is your passport from? You might be able to get pages added or a new passport easily. I would not post my passport out of the country.

The Democratic republic of Congo. Can anyone advise if there is a 'friendly' consulate that would be prepared to assist in adding pages...totally confused.

You have to travel to a country where there is an Embassy or a representative of your Embassy

You should contact them priopr to your trip as they might let you know whethere they are allowed to do it or not

DRC is not posted in every country so check it out

Looking at the Thai Foreign Ministry site, it appears that the relevant Embassy is in China!

No. 6, Dong Wu Jie, San Li Tun,

Beijing 100600,

The People's Republic of China

Tel: (8610) 6532-1621 (assistant to ambassador)

Fax: (8610) 6532-1360

This may be owing to the following announcement in September:-

The Democratic republic of Congo (DR Congo) has only 14 honorary consuls now after scrapping 75 out of the original 89 in its foreign missions, the local Okapi radio reported.

Citing Foreign Minister Alexis Thambwe Mwamba, the report said the clean-up operation is to bringing diplomatic order and re- establish the credibility of the central African country.

"If you name someone to be honorary consul, it is important that the country to which you have named him accepts him," he was quoted as saying on Monday.

"What was happening in the case of our country is that sometimes we had named four or five honorary consuls in one same town, finally, it is the foreign country's administration that clearly and simply refused to give accreditation to these individuals," said the minister.

"After many months of inquiry, I have effectively arrived at the conclusion that all those who were named without proper procedures being put in place will be scrapped and we will remain with only 14. I have already made a report to the Council of Ministers and I have informed the concerned countries that we have recalled the mandate of these people, I have decided to bring order in this sector," Thambwe added.

I'd suggest contacting the Embassy and getting their advice. They may have delegated some services to another country's embassy here, in Bangkok, to provide assistance for citizens abroad, but that might not include passports.

if you are leaving thailand to any other country and send youre pasport to any consulate or whatever,,it it not affect thailaw, bcs if consulate exept posting of paapost.

but

1. posting out of any country its against the third country law, bcs must carry passport with you,,but regulary no problem,in case of a check, you could say youre lost it, bcs youre legal tehre, and nobody know you are sending passport,or pay samll fine

2. difficult, most embassys , if they see you are not in europe ,due to visa stamp dont issue visa, but malaysia and singapore and philipiines no visa, make sure te entry stamp is not on the last page, so they not see the stamp.

3. fed ex sending plus consulate and return about 5 to 8 workindays depending on destination.

but,,,with only one page in passport,,hhmmmm very suspect, and i dont think get visa, make new passport first..........or is tehre a problem
