December 4, 200916 yr I am aware that Buses (Bus-Lines) are mostly operated by different private companies. But still, is there something available like a monthly Bus-Pass for a fixed amount of money, that would at least cover certain aereas of Thailand? I would be surprised if there is something like that, but it never hurts to ask. Cheers.
December 4, 200916 yr I believe the passes have stopped now, you used to be able to get two types, standard (non AC buses) and AC buses for around 10bht a day. As I understand they have finished. Oz
December 5, 200916 yr yes-and at least 3 years ago already. There was another type when Swampy opened -1600 bt/month-for all ORANGE AC and red normal-to stimulate staff's bus use to there-but after the suplly was sold it was also never reprinted. The verdict is that we wait for some high-tech micro-chip swipe card ala HOngKong/Singapore/London/Paris style thing. But that would mean no more conductors=some 20.000 job loses and unions are predictably.........
December 5, 200916 yr Bus companies are totally paranoid about in-house theft and perhaps rightly so. Legions of staff check and re-check the numbers of paper tickets and accountants tally and balance rider figures with revenue. It's hard to change this mindset. Any new system offers opportunities for cheating. For example, the ticket would be non-transferrable but offices and other groups would certainly try to share it Thai-style.
